I too saw that mention of h2g2 on the Beeb's news pages. If I remember tomorrow I'll point the site's staff in the direction of that article. They really like to see this site getting bigged up elsewhere within the BBC. It gives them bragging rights you see

I see from where you've posted so far that you've found Pinniped's fine entry about Flixborough. He's one of my favourite writers around this place, and a chap who is definitely worth getting to know

Anyway, on to the more formal bits and bobs of the introduction...

My name is GreyDesk (GD for short) and I am one of this site's Assistant Community Editors, or ACEs. It's part of my role to come along and personally welcome you to the place that is h2g2. I'm here to help if you've got any questions about what the site has to offer, how to move around within the site. And most importantly, how to contribute to the site.

The focus of h2g2 is our Edited Guide. This is an on-going project to collect the unique knowledge of our researchers about 'Life, the Universe and Everything'. We would be really pleased if you could contribute something towards this. If you want to get involved, then please make sure that you read the Writing-Guidelines before submitting anything to PeerReview

If that's not to your taste right now, then there are plenty of other places on the site for you to explore. Heck, there's a whole community out there chatting away. A good place to start is at <./>Askh2g2</.> where conversations about all manner of topics are taking place right now. Thanks for the welcome. I think I'm in different timezone to most of you, which meant that I would have sneaked in while most of the ACE's were asleep.

I intend to be a contibutor, once I've spent some time getting a better feel for the guide. I think I'm going to like it here.

GreyDesk doesn't sleep. He prowls through the night like an evil black winged thing.

Usually limping, when he's just undergone some dopey self-inflicted accident.

I guess that it must be different where he is. Here, black winged things tend to be asleep when the moon is up and only wake up on Tuesdays.

I'll have you know, Master B, that I'm fully recovered from my minor accident, thank-you-very-much

As for the only waking on Tuesdays bit. I think that I could get used to that. I'm a terminally lazy so-and-so, and tend to seize all opportunities to do absolutely nothing with both hands and run with it
