Hiya, welcome to the Guide!
Hope you don't mind me popping in and saying hi - I just thought I'd see what you think of the guide so far and give you someone to chat to.
(Very briefly as I'm off for Christmas soon)

Hi BB, and thanks.
Yep, I'm enjoying the guide so far. I found my way here last week, from the link on altavista's babel page. I was just surfing aimlessly during a slack period at work (why don't we just start our christmas hols earlier? no-one's doing any work at the mo).
Anyway, on with plot.
I read a couple of entries and was really impressed by the character of the place. Everyone seemed nice, and educated, and reasonable and generally the kind of people you'd choose to hang around with. So I joined up.
Like all communities (real and virch) it's awkward starting out. Frequent users already know each other, and even if you lurk for a while, you still need to make the intros and become accepted.
How long have you been here?
tt.

.....have just visited your own pages, so no need to answer how long you've been here. I no know.
And isn't it a small world - I've just moved away from So'ton. We lived near the Cowherders (right posh). I can't honestly say that I miss being there.
When are you leaving for xmas? Isn't term long-since finished?

Hiya
I've been here on h2g2 for about a year and three quarters now... so I guess I'm one of those "frequent users [who] already know each other". Although I'm running off to catch a ferry home for Christmas in about 7 minutes, so if I don't reply to a reply you give for about a fortnight, I'm not ignoring you!
But yes - I like it here. It gives me a chance to attempt to be creative, and at the same time meet a lot of people I wouldn't have met normally. Which is great as about twice a year (in the UK at least) there are get-togethers where people on h2g2 meet each other in real life - very surreal, but very fun.

Hello - I'm back again!
Cowherders.... is that on the other side of the Itchen? As I'm only a student my knowledge of the local area isn't as brilliant as it could be - I spend most of my time between Swaythling, Highfield and Portswood - which don't quite count as being "posh"
So - I hope you had a merry Christmas - I had quite a good time, on Boxing Day there was a full family get-together, something that hasn't happened before ever... or not since my Mum & Dad divorced and remarried, anyway.
I still can't help with your book question, sorry...
See you soon!

Hi again, and Happy New Year.
Yes thanks, we had a tip top time (so to speak!). Saw lots of people, ate and drank plenty of lovely treats. Seemed to spend an inordinate amount of time driving up and down the country though, so am just as tired now as I was before xmas, doh!
Southampton.....the Cowherders is the big white pub on the bottom of the Common, and near the paddling pool. We lived on one of those streets that's in Portswood, but the residents all put Highfield on their addresses. You know the kind of people I'm talking about. It was a lovely flat, but Southampton never really took my fancy.
So have you started term already, or have you just come back early? Did Santa bring you everything you asked for?

Ah right! The Cowherders - yep, I've cycled past it lots of times, never been in it on the basis that it looked expensive. I knoew it was there, just not what it was called. I've seen the area, but not really that much as, well, I'm a poor student
I always thought Southampton was quite nice as far as cities go - it has a lot of parks, which I like, but I've never really been a city person. One of the best things about Southampton is that you can get a copy of the Isle of Wight County Press there.
Term starts next week, which means I have some time in which to try and relax before going back to uni to recover from relaxing.
