h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

welcome to h2g2. I am a fellow researcher, also into life, the universe and everything (somehow)

dont panic, this is just an online community. Its slightly odd, but very nice, and you might find yourself feeling at home here.

An 'archangel' or one of the regulars, or a helper will be along soon to say hello and point you on your way. But just wander around and see what you make of it. Dive into a conversation if you like, or pop into the utopia cafebar for tea, toast and evolution. (thats on my space, which you can get to by clicking my name in this postings header.

Sounds like we could both be candidates for the procrastinator's society - you had a fishbowl to clean and I had my invoices to send.

Instead I spent ...oooh a long time here. At least I now know what to do at work each day!

i like the site, but i'm trying to get used to navigating. can't figure out what is where and whether or not i've been there or not and don't know where to go next...any suggestions welcome.

er... navigating the guide?

Well, since the guide is trying to cover life the universe and everything, and is only about a year old, and has been mostly written by the researchers (you, me and the other people here - some of whom have read the Hitchhickers Guide to the galaxy book, or heard the radio programme, or seen the TV show or know everything ever about Douglas Adams - the author of the above; and some who have never heard of The Hitchhikers Guide before.)

Message one: DON'T PANIC

this used to be written in large freindly letters on the h2g2 skin but has now been replaced by the hopefully friendlier 'help.'

Message two: NAVIGATION

Meandering is the best way to approach it, I find. First, go to the H2g2 front page and follow some of the links from there. they put up a few new entries each day... You can also type anything at all in the search bar, and see what random nuggets, interesting or idiotic entries come up.

Each entry has a discussion forum. Most people here are very friendly, so just read a few postings to get a flavour of the tone and topic, and dive in. You can click the name of each person who posts to get to their h2g2 homepage, and find out more about them.

The more you wander, and click on links and names that catch your eye the more fun you will have.
