Hi friend!
I'm having something of a problem recently with your postings. Do I have a problem with my screen/keyboard I ask myself? and getting no logical answer, thought I'd ask you.
When you post anything using the apostrophe, I see a capital O with the (my German's W***)umlaut? over it. Any idea why? Like for instance, your most recent posting on limerick. What do you see when you view it later?

Hi
I am not 100% sure but it is something to do with Microsoft Word and GuideML, the language that h2g2 uses. Also the fact that my Mac has a French Keyboard (which is different from a PC keyboard) might have something to do with it. However and even more baffling, this doesnÕt appear when I view the postings but does with a few other peopleÕs postings. I also have a feeling that it only happens when I type a reply directly rather than writing it in Word then cut and pasting it (or the other way round).
Let me know what you see when I post this Ð it was written in MSWord.

Hi
After some research it seems to be posts that are written directly into the reply box Ô- and various symbols come out different. LetÕs see what happens when I post this.

Hello again - is it really Monday - I've been overtired for so long now I go on autopilot most of the time - family all away for the weekend so I decided to have a snooze at around 5:00pm yesterday, thinking the dog would wake me for his late night walk. I woke this morning at 7:00am and couldn't believe it wasn't yesterday evening.
Hence late response. Now! your first reply (the I am not 100% sure one) I got umlauts with all the apostrophes; but on the last line between the words this and it, I got what appeared to be a capital d with a very small line through the upright.
Second message of 13 hours ago tells me my eyesight's failing as well, the apostrophe's aren't umlauts at all - It is like a capital O with (it is so damned annoying when I cannot describe a symbol and I bet diamonds if I type the thing it will look different to you) it is above my hash key and looks like a tiny worm - the second difference is on line 1 of your second message - immediately after 'reply box' this one shows a capital o with a small upside-down v above, followed by a dash.
If nothing else, it makes your messages doubly interesting, as I have to try and work out what you've really put.
I've typed all this directly, I rarely use word first.
Happy browsing Pedantic.

Hi
I still donÕt have a definitive answer for you Ð other than the upside-down v that appears over letters is called Ôa circumflexÕ and along with the Ž, , are French inventions so the fact that I use a French keyboard is most likely to have something to do with it. If you type 1234567890 you get &Ž"Õ(¤!ˆ. I never understood the French.
Have you noticed that scaredy cat has been invaded by Artisan. He/she objects to everything I post. HELP

Strange you should say that! I've just sent him a message, asking him why I have caused offence in an anagram thread - won't bother repeating this as I've put it into a separate subject to you - I really don't mean to keep badgering you - it must make you really annoyed.

Don't worry about it - I don't get annoyed that easily.

I have just re-read your Post 6 Ð Has Artisan been on at you about anagram entries? I havenÕt the foggiest what he finds so objectionable but I am relieved that it is not just me.

My only problem, is that I don't post on an anagram thread as far as I remember. Still I do forget a lot these days. Any idea exactly which thread he/she is talking about, so I can visit it and see what I might have done? (I find the he/she bit confusing as I have a friend who is a TV)

Hi-
There were two Anagram threads one of which was started by Artisan. I switched it off after he objected Ôif you canÕt follow the rules etc etc Ô as I could not work out what I was supposed to have done wrong. I have checked with the Games Room and the thread now appears to have been removed. I think it was just called Anagrams. The other is:
The Anagram Game Post: 1 Posted Dec 7, 2002 by Teasswill (here or there)
This is Bebel Matman's game:
Solve the anagram & post a new one (preferrably 9 letters)
Now seems to have become ArtisanÕs province as well and he has started objecting to postings here even though they follow the rules. Perhaps heÕs a prude and doesnÕt like it when my anagrams are a bit risquŽ. That is his problem. You and everyone else who has commented on my postings has been complimentary.
Key: Complain about this post
