Finding one's way around Boston
Posted Nov 18, 2000
I've always thought that Boston must be modeling its signage policies after those used by the English in WWII. There are few road signs, and sometimes the road signs seem to be wrong, or at least don't match the maps (which may or may not match any known aspect of reality). People appear to be either unwilling or unable to give directions. Detours around roadwork and Big Dig construction lead in circles, blocking even pedestrian traffic. Yep, Boston is effectively protected against invasion--anyone attempting to conquer would have to blast it out of the way to get anywhere.
