A Propper Smile
Posted Sep 16, 2005
Today I was given back my smile
When I was just a little lad I had a accident and broke one of my front teeth it was only a little break but I was concious of it and never really smilled a lot
Being only young when it happened no dentist would do any work on it as it was considered a cosmetic procedure. These days theses things are done as a matter of course..
When I reached adulthood all most dentists wanted to do was either take the tooth out and replace it with a false one (I didn't fancy that), an expensive procedure or grind the tooth down and put a cap on it, also an expensive procedure.
By this time I had lived with it so long that I was used to not even thinking about it and it just seemed natural to me to wear a straight face and only smile with my eyes and the corner of my mouth.
I went to a dentist who I'd never visited before on a different matter and when he had fixed that he said my front tooth needed some work.
I went in thinking he was only going put a filling in or something and came out with a propper smile
I now realise that the tooth was still something that was niggling in the back of my mind and only when I saw a mirrored reflection of it did I realise how much it meant to have it whole again..
It only took over thirty years for that lesson in my psychology to be learned.
I hope any one reading this doesn't leave it so long for a world without s is a sadder place!!!
