Bad day
Posted Nov 14, 2000
Yeah, having a bit of a mental day, which followed a fairly mental and sleepless night, most of which was spent staring at my record collection, convincing myself that (a) it's all rubbish - which it isn't at all- and (b) that I've become a shallow ratracer obsessed with the accumulation of material goods. I don't THINK I have, but it's always possible. I there are certainly a couple of things I quite fancy which could be classed as 'frivolous luxuries', but that doesn't make me a bad person, does it?
An early night for me tonight, I think.

It was bound to come out sooner or later...

...so I thought I'd get it off my chest now. PCs are crappy, and there's no denying. it. I use one at work and it's horrible and keeps crashing, and it's the fact it's just done that that has imspired this posting. So, Macs rule. They're easier to use, they look nicer and they...well, they just aren't PCs. Put it like this - I also use a green-screen VMS terminal at work, and I prefer using that, because at least that doesn't pretend to be user-friendly like Windows does.
Sorry, just needed to vent that.

No pumpkins
Posted Nov 1, 2000
Well, couldn't get a pumpkin ANYWHERE last night. Not even a turnip could be found for hollowing out.
Funny how even really scary films aren't scary when you watch them with loads of people and several bottles of wine, isn't it?

I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up

So, 31st October then, the night the guys and ghouls come out to play. And more importantly, it's the night that Michael Myers came home.
Now I don't know about anyone else, but I think John Carpenter's Halloween still stands up today as an absolute horror masterpiece. The first-person steadicam stuff at the beginning is one of the most unnerving sequences, which still looks great despite the fact that it's been ripped off horribly many times (cf Friday the 13th).
The Halloween series has to be THE most confused horror franchise, lacking as it does ANY consistency across its 7 parts. I'm going to write this up as a proper guide entry I think, but it seemed topical for today, so here it is.
So tonight it's pumpkins, Halloween and Halloween:H20 and a big pot of chili (not very festive, but I make great chili and want to spoil my guests.
