...to the Guide. I'm an ACE (Assitant Community Editor) and an Angel (The Patron Saint of Tea & Espresso). I have volunteered to help people who are new to the community learn the 'ropes'.

smiley - fishLet's start with places to go.smiley - fish
The Aces (http://www.h2g2.com/ACEs) - The 'official' welcome group, here to answer any questions you might have about how the guide works.
The Angels (http://www.h2g2.com/A300943) - The 'unofficial' welcome group, will assign you your own guardian Angel to look after you. We have also set-up a new-user page for you (http://www.h2g2.com/A352667)
Reasearcher's Birthdays (http://www.h2g2.com/A293195) - Leave your birthday in a forum and be added to the list.

You can leave pretty much anything you want there. At first it'll be easier for you to make a page in Plain Text. As you get more used to the feel of the Guide you'll want to use GuideML which is h2g2's answer to HTML. For more help on using that please visit the GuideML Clinic (http://www.h2g2.com/GuideML-CLinic)

If you are a budding writer and you feel it's time the Guide included something that's missing why not add a guide entry. For more details look at the Peer-Review page (http://www.h2g2.com/PeerReview). To help you understand fully the kind of things you should be writing the folks at h2g2 have made a Writing Guidelines Page! (http://www.h2g2.com/Writing-Guidelines)

I noticed that in the writing guidelines that writing should be "accidentally funny." What does this mean. Is accidentally funny somewhat akin to tripping and falling on your face in a crowded room (which is more embarassing than funny) or more like a high speed collision on the freeway (which hurts more than anything)? What do you mean by this?
Anyway, I like to have fun when I write and excercise some creativity while staying within the bounds of reality. Why don't you read my first ever journal entry and let me know if this is "trying too hard." If it's not "trying too hard" what is it? "Trying not enough?" :-> I was just curious. Anyway, bravo on this site. I only wish I had found it a long time before now. I love it. Take care, be safe.

No really, I appreciate your input. I like to find out what people like and dislike about my writing considering that I'm going to try to break through and become a full bore author soon. If there's something that you don't like, please let me know that way I can improve. As for fictional, that's my forte. I've always been more of a fiction writer than anything. I wrote that to provoke a laugh or two. The truth is, I was out of money so I ended up staying on the ship for most of the duration of our stay in Canada. Now, as to the subject of guide entries, I'm considering trying to submit a few on boot camp, Nevada, San Diego, and various foreign countries that I've been to since I've joined the Navy. I've wanted to document my travels somehow, but I haven't had a chance until now. Plus, in a few months we're going on another deployment to see places like Singapore, Japan, Thailand, etc. What do you think? Think it'd fly?

hehe, it happens from time to time.
I think the guide is lacking on geograpical entries, so that would go down very well.
As for fiction, there's a club around here somwhere for people who prefer to write fiction.

http://www.h2g2.com/A294833 is the place to go if you like fiction, or so I'm told.
