Sunny here in Angoulême for once.
Still battling on my friends behalf to try & find a way of getting his computer sorted, he now thinks that Norton & Norman anti-virus things are incompatible with his anti-spam programmes; whatever, he can't acces emails now, which makes life difficult to say the least!No way can i give him tecchie advice in French on the phone (even if i had any advice!)

Don't really know how to help him there though! To be honest, unless he can find someone 'locally to him that can help him out of it, I'd say uninstall everything and start again from scratch - but that's one hell of a job - assuming he's all the passwords/original CDs/etc...

I think thats what he's doing now. What is "uninstall" in French? He will almost certainly have passwords etc, he is a pretty organised person unlike me!
But he is worried about losing dossiers, he uses the computer for work (accountant..."black" style)

Uninstall - generally they use either 'supprimer' or 'désinstallation/désinstaller' - Nope doesn't sound like a very happy bunny I must say!
Can he use the computer at all? Even to save documents to floppies? or is it completely messed up?

I'm not sure. Don't have enough french to ask, i just said "l'ordinateur, c'est marche ou non?" & he replied with "NON!" & a long stream of frogsqueak, involving many merde/putains etc!
Loup d'argent emailed him in french & he was able to read his emails yesterday but doesn't seem able to today.
