Greetings and salutations from another traveler! My travels might not be so exciting, or as far, but it's my firm belief that even those who travel no farther than their front door may be able to utter the most profound things...
Come talk to me, I think I could learn some things from you about journal entries! Mine seem to be no better than pudding preferences at the moment... By the way, what's your favorite flavor?

I'll try to do this only once...
Welcome to h2g2.com! smiley - smiley You are most likely still kind of new here and find the site to be a bit huge and hard to get a handle on.

I wear a lot of different hats around the site, but one of my favourites is that of an ACE (Assistant Community Editor). The ACEs are a volunteer group which the site has asked to go around and greet newcomers and steer them toward a few of the places we feel should be highlighted.

This site is designed to become an interactive and updatable Guide to Life, the Universe and Everything (much like the fictional Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in Douglas Adams' books), the big difference is we're only seeking entries about good old planet Earth and its environs.

One of the first things you'll want to do as a new Researcher is tocheck out the writing guidelines at http://www.h2g2.com/Writing-Guidelines These contain a wealth of ideas to get started writing Guide Entries of your very own. The Small California Towns looks like a good start!

Browsing the Edited Guide with the Search Engine can also be fun. I still do it from time to time - it's amazing what things people have written. Including an amusing entry on "How To Pick Up A Porcupine - A Personal Perspective" at http://www.h2g2.com/A306361

Anyway, I hope that long rambling monologue was helpful! smiley - winkeye If you've got any questions, feel free to stop by my Personal Space at http://www.h2g2.com/U53353 and leave a message.

Hope to see you around the Guide soon! And welcome!! smiley - smiley

Hello! It's good to hear from someone as articulate and polite as yourself. I'm flattered that you actually took the time to look at my space. I thought about what you said about less traveled persons having profound things to say and I agree, but it can be nice to expand your horizons every once in a while. By the way I like vanilla pudding as well but I prefere chocolate.
About the journal entries: If you wish to move beyond subjects such as pudding (which I happen to find very interesting) you can treat it as a real journal. The things we expierence everyday shape us into the people we are. By writing these down we can not only reflect on them but we can share them with each other.

I've been in Alaska for a couple of days now and havn't gotten a chance to write a new journal entry but I promise one soon.

Yes, traveling can be a mind opening experience. I'm going to do some of that in December, visit a friend of mine in Wales.
I gather from your speech and the fact that you were in Alaska (and didn't try to explain where that is) that you're from the US, like myself. I live near Chicago, and regrettably haven't seen much of this country. I do hope to change that one of these years, but we'll see how that works out. smiley - smiley
About journal entries... if I wrote about what happened to me every day, I don't believe many people would come check out my space anymore. Besides, I like working with the abstract.
You have quite a gift in writing... I'm sure I'll find a edited guide entry of yours one of these days.
