I haven't seen that picture before, but it looks to me like it could be a nuclear reactor with an accompanying steam generator.
Or any other sort of chemical reaction chamber with an outlet through a heat exchanger.

Good guess!
It's the logo of "my" department at "my" university. It is/was "Chemical Engineering" at the "Universität Dortmund" (I graduated in early 1996).
You are an engineer, too?

Well, engineer-in-training. I'm a 4th year engineering university student, and I'm an intern at the local nuclear power plant.
And no, I don't glow in the dark.

BTW: I will be off for 1+3 weeks (Christmas holidays + we will have a baby, very soon). In the moment I only log in to h2g2 from work, because we have moved. I hope I will be able to fix a phone socket close to my PC in my new "office" at home, soon.
