Looking forward to this - me and Robbie Williams

Some girls from the village, including me, are going to the Robbie Williams concert this Friday (11 July) in Mannheim. I wonder if anyone else has been to one of his concerts and what they thought of it...

I'm looking forward to a night out (actually, we'll probably leave mid-afternoon to get a decent place near the front) with a bunch of crazy girls.

Reduced to this

Some days I just have time to log on to H2G2, dash off a limerick and go again. Apologies to all fellow limerickers if my offerings are sometimss a bit weak ...

So much for that

I wonder how many of you guessed whose journal entry this was? I find it an amusing quiz since the introduction of "friends" to try and guess from the title who has added to their journal this time.

Anyway it's me. And I am even further away from my aim of writing more entries. I spent all Saturday at the office trying to catch up on work. And all Sunday recovering from the week's work. I'm only on line now despite the frowning and reproachful comments of my husband who is fed up with the place looking such a mess.

Relief is in sight though. (Taling about work again here) But first of all, I hear you all gasping in amazement that I'm still doing this damn job. Well it IS very near home. 6 - 10 minutes by bike (downhill there, uphill home). And it is a small new company and they are making serious efforts to sort out the chaos that still prevails. So while they are making efforts to improve things, I will give them a chance. Also there is the aspect that at my age in Germany I would be VERY lucky to get another job - you're written off at 40 or at the latest at 45 and I'm - *ahem* - well past that.

I must really make the effort to go home earlier. And eventually to start doing things at home, too.

Like researching my Dresden article. I've been talking about that for over 2 years now, I think. Sorry Bossel.

Oh for a decent choir

In one little choir I am in - we had our rehearsal tonight - we are doing a work by Robert Ray - a Gospel Mass. I can't find much about the man or the work on the web, and the only CD's I could find were recorded by amateur choirs. It would be great to sing this work with a decent choir - preferably a nice big one.

So far we have done the Acclamation which is a non-bombastic Halleluya - quite an unusual atmosphere, but very moving harmonies. I've played some of the other movements (what are the parts of a Mass called?) on the piano, but why does this guy write in C flat minor?

Is music sung by black people only supposed to be played on the black notes or something? smiley - groan

Anyway, if anyone knows anything about this work or a decent recording of it, I'd be pleased to hear about it.

Plans

Somehow I'm going to find more time to spend on H2G2 - I still have so many plans for entries. All my drafts were wiped out when my son formatted the hard disk, but it's nothing that I can't re-write and re-research. I shall upload entries as I write them, and not wait until they are complete. That should help.

My most important work will still be the bombing of Dresden, but I have several I could still do out of my head. I nearly had one ready on the history of German pop music,

One of my happiest moments was when I got an e-mail from Sam (the Italic) to say how much he loved my "Clothes pegs and washing lines" entry, so perhaps I can find some more everyday subjects to write about from the housewife's angle. Whatever I'm doing, I'm always writing it for H2G2 in my mind.

And I'm going to buy a screen to put behind me when I'm on the computer here, because now I have my own PC it's situated under the stairs where everyone walks past. I can't write a single posting without being bawled at or bothered about something. I mean a standing screen to hide me from view - not a monitor or TV!!!

Anyway - smiley - cheers - here's to the weekend!
