A Blues Brothers cover act was announced as appearing in our town. I thought I'd like to see that, so I got the DVD out and watched the film
I realised it's the first time I'd seen it with the English sound track. The German dubbed version isn't bad, the catch phrases are just as popular here in the German as they must be with BB fans in the English-speaking world.
And I was reminded of why I am so mad about Dan Aykroyd. (OK - he's put on weight. But so have I)
Anyway, last night we went along to the gig. It was rather disappointing. Two guys singing to playback. They managed to make the most of the audience (the place was only half full) and, on closer inspection of the film again afterwards, they did capture the moves and the look really well. The Ellwood half was a pretty good singer and harp player, but the other one didn't have a very strong voice. But then again, nor did John Belushi. Anyway, all in all a rather mediocre experience, except I met lots of friends there.
But I was glad I watched the film again.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted May 16, 2014
There used to be a great Blues Brother's band, playing regularly back in my hometown... they'd even appear at the gig, in the right car... and had 'extras' to add to the mix at appropiate points.... and did all the music live on stage, as well as teh singing.... One of the best bands I've seen, for really* getting the audience not only interested, and animate, but getting htem moving about, up on stage, and 'taking part' as it were and, of course... as the night progresses, and more alcohol is consumed by the audience (possibly by the band too), it would get even more riotius as the evening progressed
Hmmm... and now I'm wondering if they're still gigging round that area... not seen em in years

There was a touring Blues Brothers show in the UK for many many years. I think I saw it twice.
It was good fun. The guys could do the jokes and the dancing. Yes, the voices weren't perfect, but when are they ever in a live show?

Did they have the chicken wire to save the band from flying bottles?

It wouldn't surprise me if that was part of the set. They certainly performed Rawhide, with a whip.

They apologised for the lack of chicken wire, but they had the whip. I think I've just realised why I lurve Dan Aykroyd - it's the blues harp. Makes me go weak at the knees.

That's a good excuse, and one I may use in future!
