Spiff, who may or may not turn up again, and

Smiley Ben. Where did he go, when and why? I met Ben at the summer meet 2002 and (I can say it now) thought he was the most beautiful person in the room. We had a few conversations when I was a subed.

Hi TC and friends, smiley - ok

I wasn't online at all for the first half of this year, and just now i'm not always near the Net, but have been easing back into h2g2.

It's funny how after a prolonged absence you can come back feeling like a newbie all over again.

Not sure whether it's more appropriate to say 'sorry' or 'glad' that you've been missing me, TC, if you see whadimean, smiley - biggrin, but i'll look forward to saying hello next time i see some peepers next to your name round here somewheres, smiley - ok.

Funnily enough, i too am back in Blightsville at the moment, but i have opted for including the 2 weekends on either end of your trip! (well it makes sense to *me*!!)

I'm back in Germany now.

What are you doing with yourself then Spiff? And how can one possibly not be near the web for 6 months? I'm intrigued!

hi HP, hi TC, smiley - ok

i wasn't away from the web, not at all, but i had a job in Paris where a)all my time in the office was spent on w*rk; b)i had no connection where i was living; c)totally changed my day-to-day habits to such an extent that h2g2 stayed in Strasbourg with the rest of my life

I've been in Blighty for 2 weeks now and plan to spend the w/end in the Big Smoke with my bro and family before returning to 'Europe' on monday. I always enjoy the ferry

how did the mother country treat you?

Yes, we went by ferry, too. Can you confirm this: I compared prices and if I'd gone by tunnel (2 adults in a VW passat) it would have cost 308 pounds return. The ferry was cheaper. I had thought it may be cheaper, but that seemed one helluva lot of money. Going underwater by tunnel wouldn't have been my thing, anyway, so I'm glad it was cheaper by boat.

The trip Dover Calais is far too short and it is annoying that you can't go to Felixstowe any more. We're rather confiend to P&O because I have shares and we get concessionary half price fare.

I was on my own, and i'm not sure how much more it'd have been with a passenger... less than £308, i think.

I'd been looking forward to some nice changeable Lincolnshire weather and instead... smiley - steam!

Now i'm just getting used to the qwertiness of my k/board and i'm off home on monday. But it'll be good to get back. I've spent very little time at home this year cos of work, and once i finished, it was time for uk hols. Good to see family and friends, though.

btw, i used to travel on the trains all the time, and have done the underwater thing many times. I like it. Not sure i'd like it so much sitting in my car on the train, but on the eurostar i always enjoyed it. Train from Lincs to London, central London-central Paris in 3 hours (soon to be reduced), gare du nord-gard de l'est, and then the 4/4.5 hours to Strass. I love that route. It can be a slog, but i always think it's better than driving.

sorry, bit of a ramble there

And now Captain SpankMunki seems to have disappeared. He fell down the stairs on 4 December and hasn't been seen since. I wonder if anyone has heard fro him?

Yeah. We all told him to get his leg checked out at the time.

I just hope nothing more serious has happened.

Gnomon - time to move on

I miss Cloviscat, who has moved on. She left a polite goodbye on her space.

Jack Naples has also left, in a bit of a huff. He was the only gloomy person at the one h2g2 meet I met him at.

Kaeori is long gone, but I still think of her from time to time.

Azara no longer contributes to h2g2 although I see her regularly in real life.

On the other hand, one or two people have turned up again - Mycroft and Marauding Pillowcase, for two.
