A full week.

Lots seems to have happened recently.

On Sunday James' youngest niece was Christened. She's called Amelia Charlotte. (We chose that name first). She behaved beautifully: I hope our Charlotte behaves as well when her turn comes.

We got an email from Daddy on Friday. My younger sister Clara had a story read on the BBC - they heard it by accident. She sent it in some time ago and they said they had received it, but no more. We're blaming the post; it can take a long time for a letter to reach Saudi Arabia. We're assuming that it was read out on the World Service, since they heard it out there.

On Wednesday I went into hospital and had my Cervical suture taken out. It's definitely not an experience I would recommend to anyone, and I'm really glad it's over.

On Thursday, Friday and today we had James' play. I watched the matinee performance today: it was really good. So were the other two one-act plays on the same bill. The other performances also went well, with no hiccups. All right, so there were no Champagne glasses on the table for the first night, and Peter snapped a glass this afternoon putting it down rather too hard, but that was nothing they couldn't cope with. I'm sorry it's over.

Now we can sit back and relax.... until the baby comes. I've got time to have her now.

Baby dates.

I had an antenatal this morning - which may turn out to have been my last.

I've been given a definite date to have my stitch removed; I'm going in to hospital on Wednesday 22nd at 12.00.

Charlotte may have come by Wednesday evening, if I do go straight into labour. I hope she'll wait a few days, though. I want to see the first night of James' play on Thursday (and actually, so does he). If I'm lucky she'll come on Friday or Saturday either this week or next.

Today is Alexander's anniversary. It's difficult to believe that a whole year has passed since we lost him. It doesn't feel that long. We went to visit his grave this morning. My sisters had put flowers there and it looked cared for. I'm glad we went, but I find it difficult to connect my baby with those stones. I don't believe he's really under them.

7th September 1999

Today is Alexander's 1st Birthday. I miss him terribly.

32 1/2 Weeks

My pregnancy is progressing really well. Charlotte now weighs around 5 lbs which is a good safe weight.

We went to our first antenatal class yesterday, having missed two due to flu and a wonderful demonstration of owls. It was actually a tour round the delivery suite and labour wards, which was rather horrible in a way. It's the first time we'd been in there since I was in labour with Alexander so it did bring back some unwanted memories.

We've been cleaning and re-organising the house in preparation for the birth. There's still an awful lot to do: it has made me very aware of how little time I actually have left.

We've finally got the cooker hood up and wired in, after nearly two years, so we now have more storage space in the kitchen. There's room for a tumble drier now.

26th July

I thought I had nothing to write here, but on reflection I've done quite alot.

We went to see The Phantom Menace at Leicester Square 10 days ago and I thought it was brilliant. I know it's not fashionable to say that but it's true. I don't want to wait another 3 years for the next installment.

My father went back to Riyadh on Friday. By the time I see him again Charlotte will be about 8 months old. She'll probably be the first of his grandchildren not to scream when she meets him. I expect she'll be used to beards.

I had another scan last Monday. We got another picture of Charlotte (we now have three) and had a good look at her. I'm nearly 29 weeks pregnant. Charlotte must now be much larger than her big brother: I find it hard to imagine having anything that large inside me, although she's terribly heavy. Everyone keeps asking "are you sure it's not twins?" - I think me being small my bump sticks out rather a lot.

We went to a friend's wedding on Saturday. It wasn't as good as ours of course, but it was fun all the same. Our car refused to start afterwards and we had to get a lift to the reception. The very kind man who took us also brought us back later to try it again. In the end we had to get the RAC out. We swapped our car for Daddy's at the first opportunity.
