Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences

I'll have to wander over at lunchtime and see what I can do. One of my overriding memories of said teacher (Hi Mr. Walker, how you doing?) Is the "its" speech. "There Is No Apostrophe In A Possive Its". Each word puncuated with a slamming of his board rubber on a pupil's desk. No-one that's been taught by him ever messes up apostrophes.

Like I say, I nevwer used to have a problem with apostrophes. I think it all went pear shaped when I started doing it deliberately to annoy Lucinda...

Song lyrics are interesting, particualrly in the blues, because they are mostly not written down and being sung by someone whio is, to all intents and purposes, illiterate. It can lead to some interesting liguistic twists.

Do not tempt me, really.... So far today, I've managed to ignore her- she's got a very quiet voice, and if pretend I can't hear her, she gives up rather than speaking up...

That seems a trifle harsh. The poor woman is probably nervous...

Nervousness would be acceptable for a couple of months. If she's still nervous after about eight then she shouldn't be in a managerial role.

Besides which, she knows I can't hear very well....

Very possibly. And as my boss it's her job to shout back and exert her authority. She hasn't done so, so she hasn't got any. Suits me.

Oh yeah. How else do you think I keep so many engineers under my thumb? God, life here would be Hell if it wasn't easier for them to just do as I I tell them....

How do I think you keep engineers under your thumb?

Youre a woman, ergo they're scared of you. QED.

smiley - laugh Oh it were that simple. They're scared of a certain *type* of woman. They're not scared of dizzy blondes, timid micey women, or large jolly women.

In my experience, engineers are scared of _all_ women.

On a totally unrelated note, I've found a couple of Dr Who videos at the back of Odo's video shelves, and I would value your opinion on whther it'd be worth a part-time Doctor fan such as myself reserving a couple of hours and a couple of bevvies of my choice (for my sins, I've been drinking a lot of cider recently) in order to watch them. They are The Sontaran Experiment and Genesis of the Daleks. Being a Tom Baker fan, I suspect that I've already seen them, but are they any good? Are they better than The Robots of Death, which is still my favourite?
