Hi there flakey-lady. Thanks for your recommendations over on the "Movie" thread... as I explained, I'm not from Florida, but from Chicago... although I do have family who've relocated to Florida (parents, sister, niece and nephew).

I maintain my devotion to your humble thread smiley - laugh because I am a Class A Videophile. My better half and I own in excess of 1300 movies, possibly more. I'm always looking for recommendations, I'm eager to share when I see something I've enjoyed, and I'm keen to know when something isn't worth the time.

However, movie smiley - geek that I am, thanks in part to the wonders of Netflix, and Alpha Video and Front Line Entertainment releasing a zillion DVDs of films which have hit public domain, dirt cheap... we haven't seen many films in a cinema over the past year or so. (In fact, we've only been to the cinema for five in a year and a half: "Fahrenheit 9/11", the h2g2 feature film, "We Jam Econo" (a documentary about the Minutemen smiley - ok), "Corpse Bride", and Harry Potter IV.)

Anyway, while our tastes may be quite different (it seems that way at times, though not always), I am always excited to discuss the movies will fellow film freaks, even if only to argue about what sucks and what doesn't! smiley - winkeye

Looking forward to seeing you around and discussing with you more!

hi there pc..

i must have got my wires crossed.. i'm sure someone posted that they were off to florida.. but you actually live in the states.. in the windy city..

i've been to florida 4 times and went to NY last month just for a few days... wow, mad city with lots of mad people... wish i'd seen the xmas lights but early nov was cheaper, and i am poorsmiley - smiley

wish i'd seen the remake of the fog as it was showing over there in times square area...we meant to go back and catch it but time ran out... still no sign of it coming out heresmiley - sadface anyway as a remake it will probably disappoint.. the original was very good with that punchy john carpenter music score..

yes i love movies and my tastes are quite varied.. though i do love horror films especially.....keenly waiting for the release of desperation [stephen king] its will be on one of your channels 1st then hope they put it on dvd like they did rose red.. also stars my fav hunk ron perlman.. he of the husky drop knickers voice smiley - drool

waiting to see king kong maybe this weekend....but why so many remakes?

I am seriously considering seeing the "King Kong" remake in the theater.

But yeah, why so many remakes? Is it really that hard to come up with an original idea? smiley - winkeye

I like horror films, too, though I prefer them to fall into one of three categories: (a)cheesy schlock, (b)over-the-top gorey, to the point of silliness, or (c)poop-your-pants scary/ edge of your seat suspense. smiley - biggrin

Uh-oh, I'd better smiley - run and get my train home. Don't want to be at w*rk any longer than necessary!

Back at'cha later!

you just left w**k? i just finished w**k an hour ago.. i work twilights, finish at 10pm....

suppose i w**k in the film industry...sort of....photo processingsmiley - biggrin well i develop film!!!!!!!!

its funny how peoples tastes differ....we loved moulin rouge, some hated it...one of the best films of the year for me would be the descent...blew me away... the cave was pathetic by comparison, but it was a hard act to follow... there must be spies in the industry as this often happens.. two very similar films...eg ants and a bugs life...

anyway have a nice evening and i'm off to bed with the snoring husband [ i can hear him...well at least i know hes breathingsmiley - biggrin]

Good night, and sleep well! I've just finished my dinner, and fed the cat, and we'll be settling in to watch a movie in a few. We got our replacement copy of "The Intruder", the one I most recently spoke of on the movies thread. Hopefully it's the right disc in the sleeve this time.

I always hated working evenings. Even worse than the graveyard shift, I thought, because by the time you get off work, everything is closed for the night. How do you like working the evening shift?

I do the run of the mill 9-to-5, more or less, although I generally get in around 7:30 or 8:00 and rarely leave much before 5:30. smiley - doh

hello PS

i've been on twilights for over 8 years nowsmiley - sadface but it fits in with our family commitments.. i suppose i'm used to it, but in a few years i hope to work days instead...soon as my youngest is old enough to be more independant...

i haven't heard of the intruder....films often take longer to release over here.. even though we must go to the cinema on average once a month and see trailers.. also we hire dvds most weekends.

its really cold over there now smiley - brr we've had a lot of rain and wind, a few very cold days... a colleague not long returned from NY and it was still warm there.. in early dec...crazy huh? it was warm when i was there early nov....

my hubby would love to go to canada.. its a dream of his... its very expensive though.. the plane tickets are expensive enough.. america is more affordable for us.. but even thats at a pinch....

is king kong out there yet? we were certain it came out here today, even drove to the cinema to get tickets.. but its not released till next thurssmiley - tongueout how stupid of us.. but the till girl said quite a few people had made the same mistake..so at least we are not alonesmiley - laugh

bye for now flakey

Hey there! Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Every time I logged on over the weekend, I wound up feeling crap and lying back down again... and then we were out yesterday buying some holiday gifts, I was wiped out when we got back.

How's things over in your neck of the woods? How's the weather treating you? We've warmed up a bit, but have about a foot of snow or so now. smiley - laugh

I don't think King Kong has started yet- I want to say it begins next week?

Talk to you again soon!!

hello ps and its just gone 10.30pm here.. just finished a very busy shift...been far too busy for a woman of my agesmiley - smiley saying that the young lad i w**k with .. i've seen more go in a flat bottle of coke and hes only 20....

been coldish here but we never get snow in cardiff [wales capital city] as we're too near the sea or just city is too hot.. i dunno.. last snow we had was in early 80's, i mean real snow... most years we get a pathetic little dusting of snow and thats it... i've really seen climate change in the last 20 yrs.

we saw a history of violence the other night...gosh isn't viggo quite the lusty tasty bit of stuff smiley - drool i must admit to becoming an admirer of that man... plus a very clever man in real life.. artistic toosmiley - ok

hope you are feeling better...have you caught a virus? they can knock the stuffing right out of you...plenty of illnessess over here too... a nasty vomiting and diarrhoea bug making the rounds..my friends whole family got it, but we've avoided it so far...

so get plenty of rest [watch films] and drink lots of fluid.. and don't let xmas overwhelm yousmiley - magic bye for now

Hi there! Tried replying to you earlier, but the bloody servers have been utter crap... in the past 29 hours I've managed a half dozen posts, one of which took over 40 minutes to post. smiley - cross

"History Of Violence" sounded intruiging... can you tell me what all you liked about it, besides Viggo? smiley - winkeye

We watched a lovely little Swedish film the other night, called "Kitchen Stories" (literal title is "Psalms From the Kitchen", I think). I highly recommend it, if you enjoy character studies. smiley - smiley

I'm not feeling too badly... got some stupid sinus infection that's going around work. I'm not *really* ill, just vaguely ill, which is almost worse, and it's just been lingering for a few weeks now. Sigh. I have asthma, too, so this kind of thing leaves me fairly congested, so I've been coughing a lot at night and not sleeping as well as I'd like.

I'm about to head to to bed now. Hope you continue to avoid that bug your friend's family's got, and hope your week is treating you well. Don't work too hard!

Talk soon! smiley - hug

hi ps

hope you are better... my eldest daughter seems to get these sinus problems of late too.. all the pain and stuffiness very concentrated in the one area...

well yippee its thurs night.. my last shift until tues now..[mon is what we call our float day or xmas shopping day.. call it what they like its a glorious day off to mesmiley - biggrin then i'm back in 3 more days until xmas.. being in retail we don't get the long holidays of office workerssmiley - sadface

the public want their retail therapy and our company wants their money.. so everyones satisfied...

anyway a history of violence is an excellent film.. one i'd have liked to see big screen but due to it being an 18 we can't always arrange babysitters...my middle daughter is now back in the area and she will babysit now and again..when of course we go to the cinema and see the films we can't usually see with young un...

but sadly a history of violence slipped by us.....so story is viggo and pretty wife with 2 kids devoted couple, still have exciting sex life etc etc very upstanding family in protective community etc when viggo guns down 2 vicious criminals that decide to rob his cafe and kill his staff and customers...

then mysterious scarred criminal type [ed harris] turns up after seeing newspaper coverage of viggo and reckons viggo is another man entirely.. and the plot unfolds from there.. this was all in the trailers so i haven't ruined it for you...its really worth watching and his saucy scenes will unblock those sinusessmiley - laugh

never thought of him as sexy beforesmiley - tongueout turns out hes a damn good actor too...very versatile and not one to over act.

i'm slowley introducing foreign films to my hubby....he hasn't had much patience with subtitles in the past but is getting better [hes slightly dyslectic] but he enjoyed old boy.. but not the japanese ring 1 and 2.

i read one post that said he should get an oscar for the role...i'm not 100% convinced to that extent but he was goodsmiley - ok

hoping to see king kong this weekend.. wish us luck..[it is definitely out nowsmiley - smiley] and we'll see lassie [don't laugh]as a family movie next week...i'll let you know what i think of them...

tara for now

Yeah, I work an office job, so the next couple of weeks will be alternately cushy and hectic for me. We work half a day Friday, we're off next Monday (26th) in observance of Xmas, we work half a day on the 30th, and we're off the 2nd in observance of New Year's. smiley - yikes

The down side being that I work in administration for a real estate firm, supporting the accouting and legal departments. We've got a TON of end-of-year stuff to deal with next week, and I just know it'll all roll in on Wednesday. smiley - erm

I'll look into "History of Violence", then, it sounds interesting. Thanks for the recommendation. smiley - ok

Hope you and hubby get to see King Kong this weekend! We're going to wait for the DVD. But feel free, if you manage to see it, to tell me all about how you enjoyed it and what you think. smiley - smiley

Enjoy your weekend!!

PS- If you're edging into foreign films, and like horror films, I highly recommend "Eyes Without A Face", if you've never seen it.

Also, another favorite foreign film is "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie".

Bye bye for now!!

evening ps

we'll be seeing king kong mon night as i'm off work with a float/shopping day.. thought we'd give the crowds a miss..

i'll look out for that film in blockbuster videos/dvds....i don't mind trying something new out... i took a chance on dogville and thoroughly enjoyed it after the initial shack of the non scenery.. my hubby hated it and walked out of the room, refused to watch it.... ahh the philistine.

old boy was another gamble but he enjoyed that one...despite the subtitlessmiley - biggrin

if you can find a film called DEAD MANS SHOES give it a go.. stars paddy constantine, its a brit film, very gritty realistic acting with great twist...quite violent too... its got great reviews but is still a bit obscure but gaining cult status along the same lines of DOG SOLDIERS [another brit film]

now and again we brits make fantastic films. low budget wonders.. same goes for NAPOLEON DYNAMITE which was very low budget american film with a most definite australian feel to it [must be the humour]

well the xmas rush becomes more frantic by the second...i'm just trying to ride the wave..shops are horrendoussmiley - sadface only another week to go.... then roll on valentines day and easter.smiley - run

i'll let you know what we think of king kong, but apparently it didn't do as good as they hoped over there on opening night, maybe people are getting sick of remake after remake...

ta ta for now
