strangely enough my blood fathers surname is Harper and I used his surname up until 2 years ago I changed it to my stepdads surname of Locke but I was known as William Harper

my own name, de Kramer, means "the Peddler", my grandmother's, "van der Brugge" means "of the bridge", that side of the family were bridgekeepers at some point...

Sounds vaguely military then. In the Netherlands, most of us had no last names until forced to take them by Napoleaon, so many are silly or insutling to annoy the French...
