I have not found the Contribute button you mentioned, but i have sent a guide entry to writing workshop for review before i send it for peer review. See F57153?thread=236510 . I am a graphic designer here in my little world, so i am awaiting my test assignment to become a community artist: like you, i was dissapointed to find i could not add my own pictures with guideML and decided to fix that by volunteering.
I was led here by my recent read of "Salmon of Doubt", what a wonderful epitaph this place is.
A dancer eh? I play guitar and fiddle, and have been thinking of adding some Rasgudo style to my guitar playing. I will think of you dipping low, rose clenched in teeth, to help get the soul into it.
bye now,

Makin' it happen, cap'un.

Hi Rip!smiley - smiley

Let's see - I think I saw an announcement recently about the writing guidelines having been updated - ah yes: Writing-Guidelines

Ah - so you might be a possible future community smiley - artist? How exciting!smiley - smiley One of the places where I like to hang around discussing life, the universe and everything is frequented by two of them - Asteroid Lil and Amy the Ant

They've made a lot of graphics - two of my favourites are <./>B2624624white</.> by Lil and <./>B2697608white</.> by Amy

He he - dipping low with a smiley - rose between my teeth sounds more like Tango to me - there is an edited entry on Flamenco here A500491 if you'd like to know more about it!smiley - smiley

i was exactly wrong wasn't i? Flamenco is of course tippity tippity tappity dancing, while tango is involved with the sexual metaphor of the trombone.
Well, though it was tango in my imaginings it is rasgudo which i study: As a flamenco guru you probably know it is the right hand guitar fingering that resembles a very quick arpeggio, or a very slow strum. Its like the "swing" in American music, so hard to get right because it defies the use of a metronome, the feel just isn't there till the back beats are a little bit off kilter and that certain tension builds in the rythm.
I found the article informative in tying together the spirituality and the 3 branches of the music. In this the style is much like another "spanishoid" sound I enjoy, Hawaii's "slack key". It goes well beyond an alternative tuning or a method of play into that spiritual realm behind all music.
I recently finished a very good book on the history of the gypsies that covered well the origins of the language, forgot the title.
well, thank you for the enlightenment and its off to practice a musical form more local to me: ragtime. This spring I look forward to the great big ragtime festival here near its birthplace in Sedalia and the town that bears the founders name, Joplin Missouri.
Over and out.

Well, as a non-Spanish I have only learnt about the dance - you probably know more about the guitar playing part than I do - I don't know anything about the technique behind it, just what it sounds like!smiley - smiley

I've heard it takes a lot to become a Flamenco guitarist - whether you accompany a dancer or a singer, you have to be able to follow, because they set the tempo - they decide when to do an accelerando or ritardando, a crescendo or a diminuendo

Did you know that Titania originally titled that entry 'Flamenco Dance'? But, since there was no entry on Flamenco at all, she felt that she had to add something about the history and the background as well, and when the entry was edited, they changed it to just 'Flamenco' - but I know she feels that it doesn't really cover the other two major areas of Flamenco - the song and the guitar

Seeing as you have personal experience of at least part of the guitar playing - could I interest you in writing an entry on 'Flamenco Guitar'? Both Titania and I feel that at least *some* personal experience is vital in order to really describe it

F109424?thread=238482 is a journal entry. I will revise and footnote and such over the next few days and will need some peer review (i study mainly american "mountain music", so the terminology and spanish spellings are definitley foreign to me). Rasguedo is something that fits into other styles so i can speak more clearly of it.
well, read and revise, forward to those who can help out.

Titania (gone for lunch)

*lurking over Kristina's shoulder*

Ah - most interesting!smiley - smiley

As Kristina said, I really just wanted to write an entry on Flamenco Dance, and instead it represents all of Flamenco (on h2g2 that is)smiley - erm

I like the technical descriptions - but how about emotional? Do you, as a guitar player, experience any emotions while playing? Do you feel 'the mood' of the music? I wouldn't know myself, since I've never played Flamenco, just danced

A933699 is the guide entry for Flamenco Guitar.
I have to go on to some other projects, so lets call this one finished.
I am a novice studying the flamenco rather than playing it freely at this time, so i asked some more experienced teachers in the field to give me their feelings on the emotional aspects. It pretty much matches what gives me the drive to continue a disciplined study. I think you will be pleased with the response, tatiana.

Titania (gone for lunch)

I'm already pleased - more than that, I'm very impressed - you've been busy!smiley - bigeyes What an excellent piece of writing!smiley - ok And how interesting to read the guitar players' descriptions!

Some of the paragraphs are very long - maybe you could try splitting up the text a bit more?

Oh - and that's Titania - like in 'Midsummer's Night Dream'...
