Gnomon's Word for the Day
Posted Oct 12, 2015
I'll post to this conversation occasionally with words that are interesting but don't deserve an entire entry.

Passeggiata
An Italian word for an Italian custom - a stroll around the town in the evening for the purpose of socialising. I'm just back from a weekend in Italy and I participated in this custom. I think it is common in Spain as well, although I've never really been in that country.

Found the Key to the Hampster's Cage

I've found a way for people to log in to h2g2 - many people have been locked out for over a week.
The techs have made a change to the login page. You can now put your user ID number in where it asks for your log in name and it will allow you to log in.

Someone is still reading h2g2

Glad to see that the Huffington Post article on misinterpreted hand signs quotes h2g2 as its source for the V sign.

Over the Hills and Far Away
Posted Jul 20, 2015
Well I tried. I volunteered to take up the role of sub-editor again. I was a good sub-editor in the past. I sub-edited more than 400 entries, fixing the GuideML, correcting grammar and questioning inconsistencies.
I gave up sub-editing because of the way I was treated (I was insulted and reviled for suggesting that there was a mistake in the picture attached to one of my entries). After a long break, I decided eventually to let bygones be bygones and volunteered to take up the post of sub-editor again.
I got no reply. Six weeks have gone by and none of the Guide Editors have replied to my offer, either to tell me yes or no. So either I'm not welcome, or there's nobody left running this site. Either way, I don't see the point, so I'm withdrawing my offer.
h2g2 was a good project while it lasted, but it has failed.
As long as the site is still here, I'll use it for typing up my articles in a form I myself find useful, but I see no further point in attempting to help build the Edited Guide.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
