You can call me TC Posted Nov 25, 2015
When entering East Germany at the border controls, I mean.

What did the East German government have against Mickey Mouse?

Baron Grim Posted Nov 25, 2015
Weird... I'm using Brunel, yet when I just clicked on the "next list" to continue from post 20 to this page, it switched me to Pliny. That's a new one.

Glad you've arrived safely in China, and can give us a first-hand h2g2 report on the Chinese internet.
East German Commies probably hated Mickey for many of the same reasons I do.

I probably have different reasons. Mine mostly have to do with how Disney has ruined copyright, and especially how they have co-opted works formerly in the public domain (Bros Grimm, H.C. Andersen, &c).

And destroyed other peoples' cultural artifacts through appropriation...
When five-year-olds tell me that Disney's version, and not Grimms', is the 'true story', I feel that those responsible should be first against the wall - BEFORE Sirius Cybernetics.

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Nov 26, 2015
Spent the late morning and the afternoon in Ciqikou (Tsee-chee-koh-oo) which is an ancient town. It was destroyed in the War but has been rebuilt in the same style. It's a riot of people selling fried things on sticks, cheap souvenirs, expensive souvenirs, chillis and tea. We saw a Buddhist temple and had deep-fried cabbage pies similar to a Greek spinakopitta.

From some of the things I've seen in travel shows (like An Idiot Abroad), I think I'd prefer Dibbler's fare.

Everywhere I have travelled I have assumed that if something comes out of boiling water or boiling oil in front of my eyes it was safe to eat.

So, we're back from China, and we ate quite a variety of boiled and deep-fried food. At least, I did. Mrs G is a vegetarian so she couldn't eat a lot of the food which is very meat-based.
An interesting trip in all - I think I might write a Post article about it.
