Gnomon - time to move on

I've been researching Irish high crosses for about two years now. I just have one more site to visit: Clonmacnoise. It's about 90 minutes away. I may go there on Sunday. The entry is at A986501 but it may change depending on what I find.

This is a fine piece if work, Gnomon. I hope you enjoy visiting the final cross.

I particularly like how you've chosen 9, rather than add an unnecessary one to make it a top 10.

It just worked out that way. There were other crosses on the list but they weren't good enough.

Gnomon - time to move on

I happened to be in Portadown in Northern Ireland last Friday with one hour and forty minutes to spare. There's a high cross in a place called Ardboe just 45 minutes' drive from Portadown, so I went to it, took a few photos and headed back.

It's the biggest high cross in Northern Ireland and in Ulster, as well as being the third biggest in the whole of Ireland. It was certainly worth the visit. I've now added it into the entry, and to keep the number of crosses at 9, I demoted one I wasn't too happy with. I'd already said that all the crosses were worth a visit, but I'd said that the one at Duleek probably wasn't worth a visit on its own, so it didn't quite fit in.

Still waiting to visit Clonmacnoise to complete the set. I may get there next weekend (21st).
