Seems to lack menace and terror. Too much a fun place, in your gorgeous picture. Home of one of Spongebob's friends, perhaps.

Unfortunately, I'm not so good at drawing streets strewn with dead bodies.

Perhaps something arty, like a cross dripping with blood?

Or just less cartoon colour?

Those are the colours the crusaders would have encountered. But I know what you mean.

The First Crusade Project is more or less written now. I just need to think up a final sentence for it, and to make a Project Page.

The first instalment is at A63492302 and the others are all linked from it, if anyone wants a read. I'd value your opinions on whether it is interesting, gripping, pedestrian or just plain boring.

I've asked Azara to take a photograph of the statue of Godrey of Bouillon in Brussels when she's over there in a few weeks' time. That would look good on the Jerusalem entry.

Wow - just read part one.smiley - bigeyes nothing but a few typos, a missing J from Jerusalem and something else I can't remember now. This is great reading Gnomon but I'll have to read the rest tomorrow a 7 inch screen doesn't do it any justice.smiley - applause

Well, it gets better. Particularly love the third part - Antioch, very exciting and because of my poor knowledge of this history I had no idea who would win until the end. Didn't spot ant typos but that may be because I was so engossed.smiley - cheers

Thanks, Fizzy. I was worried that the "Straying from the Path" section might be too dull, but the little bit of cannibalism livened it up a little.

It did, but I found the entire jaunt very entertaining, I think it's amazing that all those folks just up and left to fight the world and rarely looking back for years on end.

It's also interesting to see how all those things they brought back to us might have been come by. A lot of my entries say 'brought back from the Crusades' and it's nice to see that they were regular people - maybe braver than most.smiley - winkeye

I learned a lot and appreciate the work you put into it - it'll be a prize for the EG.smiley - stout

Ballygowan Irish Spring Water, from Limerick, comes from a spring which is supposed to have been discovered by returning Crusaders. I always think the local people must have felt really foolish - "So that's where that water is coming from! Isn't it just as well those Crusaders were able to tell us."

I expect it was the crusaders that thought to bottle it and sell it back to the locals with added bubbles.

I saw the crusaders tomb in Dublin once and it was very moving maybe it was his drinking from the Ballygowan spring that preserved his body so well??
