What do you mean, 'What film?'. The film that your name came from. The Dark Crystal. The Dark Crystal good solid Jim Henson material. Hmmmmm, if you didn't get the name from The Dark Crystal, where did you get it? I mean everytime I say it, it is virtually reaction to put the 'hmmmmmm' on the end smiley - smiley Well, until later....

oh. I saw the dark crystal eons ago and I didn't realize that there were gelflings. My name is derived from creatures in Red Dwarf called GELFs. It stands for Genetically Engineered Life Form. I'm a mundo scifi, britcom, and Red Dwarf fan and since I'm kinda small, I figured a small GELF would be called a gelfling.

Aaahhh smiley - smiley I see smiley - smiley I cannot remember the GELFs, but I stopped watching in the 3rd of 4th series, so that may not be suprising smiley - smiley So, what other sci-fi stuff are you into? *takes a deep breath* And what do you think of Farscape? Until later....

Pity you didn't see the GELFS. Red dwarf actually hit a peak in series 5/6. I suspect, however, you may have seen polymorph (with its infamous shrinking boxers scene)in series 3 or 4. THe polymorph is a GELF...

Oh and I've heard of Farscape but never seen it. Hmmm, what other scifi?
I like lots of scifi and fantasy. Some star trek, lots of star wars, Hitchhiker's (obviously), Harlan Ellison stuff, twilight zone, some Azimov, Some Bradbury, Lots of the wierd funny stuff, Pratchett, Piers Anthony, Anne McCaffrey, loads of the old cheesy stuff, I'm just getting into Dr. Who, and I love Goodnight Sweetheart (which really doesn't count---it's a typical britcom, but it has time travel)

*gasps for air* smiley - smiley
btw, what does BCNU stand for?

Farscape is worth giving a shot to. It starts off a bit ropy, but it come through big time smiley - smiley Amusing, dark, what more could you ask for smiley - smiley Peirs Anthony, my god I havn't heard that name for ages smiley - smiley But early McCaffery is good stuff, and the TV series is meant to be almost ready (which could be well dodgy, but they have spent 4 years getting the dragons correct etc. so it may just be kick ass smiley - smiley Dr Who, now which one? It had better be Tom Baker smiley - smiley The one and only true Doctor smiley - smiley *sigh* Goodnight Sweetheart, what are we going to do with you? If you want britcom check The League of Gentlemen, a true classic smiley - smiley I almost died laughing at that smiley - smiley BCNU means exactly what it says (it is lifted straight from The Prisoner and B5 (who got it from The Prisoner smiley - smiley Well, until later...

I don't have access to the Dr. Who TV series, so I've been reading one of the old books...
And WHAT's wrong with Goodnight Sweetheart!? smiley - smiley I love a good number of britcoms...Monty Python (I've seen Eric Idle live), Red Dwarf, Goodnight Sweetheart, As Time Goes By,BlackAdder, Vicar of Dibley, (some)Mr. Bean, Fawlty Towers,Thin Blue Line,Maid Marion and Her Merry Men...

Haven't actually watched League of Gentlemen...though they performed live for my school...

additional- would you care to elaborate a bit on BCNU? (I don't quite follow your explanation...)

The League of Gentlemen performed for your school? I am truly suprised that the teachers would allow such sick humour into a school, could we be talking about different acts? Cause I am pretty sure that the teachers might blanche abit at the vet. It can be a bit minging smiley - smiley But very very funny smiley - smiley

Your choices of watching material is pretty good (I mean you cannot go wrong with Monty Python smiley - smiley but where is Fawlty Towers? Only Fools and Horses? Goodness Gracious Me? TV Offal? BrassEye? the excellent stuff, stuff which will probably never see the screen again it was too good smiley - smiley Now what is wrong with Goodnight Sweetheart, I am sure I wouldn't know, I tried to watch one episode, it irritated me (for a reason now lost to me) and I refused to watch it again smiley - smiley Maybe it is the actor from Bread that just irritates me.

BCNU - it means what it says, read out each letter. In The Prisoner (more britcom, well if you are in the right mood it can be very funny smiley - smiley when instead of saying 'see you later' they touch their forlock and say BCNU. The same action and words were used by Bester, the Psi-Cop in B5, in the first series smiley - smiley Hope this helps smiley - smiley Until later....

Okay... I get it now. I'm just a wee bit slow this morning! smiley - smiley

Fawlty Towers was listed... The other stuff isn't really offered by my TV stations...

Oops! You're right about the League of Gentlemen... I meant the Upright Citizen's Brigade had performed at my school. League fo Gentlemen was just introduced on one of my stations (I'm not too fond of it)... it's supposedly the "New Monty Python"---never. Nothing's quite so good.

btw: Are you familiar with Spitting Image?

BCNU smiley - smiley (got it now)

So it is, I used to be able to read smiley - smiley The League of Gentlemen is well worth the persistance, tho' I have heard that the American audience didn't like it. Shame it is extremely funny in bits, and while not as surreal as MP it does have a similar flavour (well a bit darker, but definatly similar, maybe MP thrown into Twin Peaks smiley - smiley

Spitting Image used to be classic Sunday night watching, very very good, however it stopped a few years ago, when the politicians became, well, bland. It would have a field day now smiley - smiley They should bring it back, I think I may write a letter to ITV (as well as Sky One, lambasting them about pissing around with G vs. E's times. Grrrrrrrr) to see if they can, though all the peeps have moved on smiley - sadface But you never know, get Rory Bremner on board and away you go smiley - smiley Until later....

oh. I just brought Spitting Image up to see what you thought about it. I've only seen two eps. Those puppets look like someone attaked the Jim Henson Creature shop with a bottle of sulphuric acid! I only watched to hear the impressions from one of the actors from red dwarf -Chris Barrie(also known from the Brittas Empire)

Despite the low raings, I think that the League of Gentlemen is still on in the US...

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor

Hello gelfing!
I came here with a set greeting but I see you have already met Crescent. smiley - smiley
From your conversation, I can gather you & I have similar tastes. I would be delighted to chat with you if you refresh this link.
I loved Spitting Image. Did you see Chris Barrie from Red Dwarf in the Leisure Centre sitcom? Can't remember its name....there was a Janitor in it who was comparatively like Baldrick is to Blackadder...smiley - winkeye
Hope to chat with you soon!

yes! It's called the Brittas Empire. Utterly stupid show, but hilarious nonetheless. Yeah that guy Colin is sorta like Baldrick, but I think Colin is a touch scuzzier...I like the one where they hypnotise Chris Barrie/Brittas into being a nice guy...smiley - smileyPity he plays so many unpleasant people.smiley - smiley
