The High Point of my College Education
Posted Apr 25, 2005
Last night at Hall Council we spent a half an hour deliberating about the design that we want on the t-shirts for our Residence Hall this Fall.
Correction.
The OTHER students elected to Hall Council spent half an hour deliberating on designs while I watched.
It's not the debate or the voting that bothers me. Democracy is important. What bothered me was that the half an hour of deliberation was on whether we should have a bowl of cereal or a hat on the front of the t-shirts. I won't elaborate- the designs were mainly visual jokes, and weren't that funny to begin with.
A hat... or a bowl of cereal.
I was told in High School that when I went to college, I would be busy learning how to cure incurable diseases, or writing literature, or discussing the causes of the Thermidorian Reaction, or attempting to stop world hunger.
No. I'm listening to a five point thesis illustrating all the merits and praiseworthy characteristics a hat has that a bowl of cereal does not.
I suggested we just put a picture of a bowl of cereal wearing a hat on the front of the t-shirts and hang all this deliberation, but that idea was promptly denied. Apparently it destroys the concept of a two party system.
We don't get the results from the election back until next week, otherwise I would report whether you should be saluting Congressman Cereal Bowl or Representative Hat. Keep your fingers crossed until then.
