Dr Anthea - ah who needs to learn things... just google it!

Hello Effers I hope you don't mind me dropping by
you mentioned in another thread that you don't know many real artists on site so I thought I'd drop by and say hello

I am a praticing artist although I use ceramics as a medium
there is a large rift in the small world of ceramics at the moment between art and craft and I find this very odd as to me the two can remain together in relative harmony there is still a needed knowledge of the craft to make art and of the art to make good craft wear

my mother is an artist and I suppose despite her trying to push me towards more academic pursuits seeing art around you as you grow up and seeing how it is created makes you more adaptable to taking it up yourself.

I am originally from Scotland though I'm now living in the Lancashire region of England,

Hey brilliant Dr. Anthea. It's great you dropped by. I wasn't aware.

Yes that art/scraft dichotomy is something I became more aware of. I used to be a bit sniffy myself about 'craft'. I've completly changed my opinion about that.

And yes I was referring in that post to people who try to do art in the real world..as well as online.

Health permitting I'm planning to do some landscape photography later this year and blow the prints up large.

Ceramics are wonderful..I did a bit of that in the past. I love working with clay.

it is an interesting medium with a lot of variety in what you do with it,

landscape photography sounds interesting, I don't do terribly much landscape photos these days it seems to be all product photography for obvious reasons.

I find many people are a little dismissive of art as a whole, like it's something you should only do if you've got some spare time and you've already saved the world...

well something like that anyway

Yes I take art very seriously..but have never aimed to sell..it's more about shows I've done with others..though in the past year I've done little in the real world. Although I think of all the planning and putting into practice I've done in my garden as art.

For me it's a way of thinking as well. An attitude of how you live your life. Being creative in relationships, conversations..writing which I've done a tremendous amount of in the past. Being experimental in all things. I take all that very seriously.

The landscape photo idea is the first time I've seriously thought of doing art I could sell. But I've got ready for that I think because of cataclysmic personal events.

My brother is a painter and has always sold a fair amount though.
