Hi Effers,
Just been given a book to read called Street of Crocodiles, by Bruno Schulz. It reminded me so heavily of Proust (only shorter!) - just wondered whether you'd ever come across it?

No not heard of it.
Reading is quite difficult for me these days for concentration reasons. But get back to me when you've read it.
i can force myself for really good stuff.
Lovely to hear from you again Gif. I don't post at all anymore on Dawkins, I'm so bored with it..but then you seemed not to much anymore from what I remember.
But it's been a while since we spoke. it really is good to hear from you. I trust you'll be around for noohootoo?

Hoping to be. The TGD thread has picked up a bit with the 'miraculous' conversion of WG/ Kuzushi to the side of the s, but otherwise rolls on much as before.
Street of Crocs is definitely worth a glance - some of the chapters are only 5 - 8 pages long, so an easy read too. A lot of description (like Proust), a lot of character (like Proust), very little plot per se (like Proust) and sentences of perfectly ordinary lengths (not so much like Proust!)
He's also been compared to Kafka - there's a bit of a surreal element, mostly because the narrator's father is barking mad.

Kuzushi has been a real friend to me of late..I really like him now. He is bipolar..and a change in medication has made a big difference to him. I'm certain its genuine...cos his humour is good with me as well.
I don't quite see how something could both be Proustian and Kafkaesque.
Proust is so much about the intensification of reality. Kafka the opposite.
I'm not sure its me..I think I read Proust very differently to you.
