I'm equally circumspect and suspicious, so I understand and appreciate your precautions. Hence my tendancy not to be date or venue specific here You're talking to an old hand at espionage, I just use that email account and this user name for general chit chat - hence myspace as well - it's so easy to google things and names etc. An art practised by Every thread has some benign, or as you found out, otherwise.
If I didn't trust you and we met on the out, I'm not suggesting for one minute we ever will It's definately not my style nor why I'm here , purely hypothetical, I have another 156 bit encrypted account I use for business and people I don't really know
I'm a bit of an anchorite at heart, I don't enjoy crowds and I trust no one to get close to me. There are one or two that do I'm not infallible and a total recluse I just porefer to keep people at a distance, that includes you No names no pack drill suits me fine Concur effers

Sorry Norti, I'm not great at these kind of 1:1 threads unless I have something specific to say..or it takes off on a particular topic...or just now and then touching base.
I finally linked up my new h2g2 email addy to connect to my personal accounts at home. I see you recently sent me another one.

That's I tend to just run through my convo's when I have time and add comments. I tend not to like losing touch with those I respect, though I do accept some people merely transit through our lives and threads for whatever reason.
I get very curious about people who are ideologically different from me, in all respects, probably why I have so many gay friends despite my being robustly hetero
I'll try to resist the urge to slow down the WWW by sending trivia to your H2G2 addy, even though I filter out the plainly offensive and dull I'll maintain this and that link for when you or I have something specific to say..or it takes off on a particular topic...or just occassionally touching base.

I have something to say on a specific topic that necessitates a one to one from me to canvas your opinion.
"What news story has caught your attention today" Post 8434 and subsequent posts should explain. I suspect HonestIago and I are basically singing from the same hymn sheet, just from a different perspective, much like your good self I'm trying to understand his (Left wing?) point of view. Like you, his initial thrust was quite challenging, though he yet to qualify it - how boorish - but not any the less interesting.

HI is a lovely bloke. I can vouch for him.
I'm not sure what I can do to help except say, engage in debate with him..and maybe just forget about any 'left'/'right' labels and stick purely to the argument.

nortirascal Posted Apr 12, 2010
That's why I wanted to canvass your independant viewers opinion, I did suspect he is a "lovely bloke" , just his initial response was quite provocative, though I was playing devils advocate myself in the initial post, and I did on that one and in subsequent response invite reasoned debate from him I await a response to that invitation.
Left/right who cares, but it is my nature to nail my colours to the mast, as you well know. You and I aer opposite ends of the political spectrum, but none-the-less, I respect your views. I expect no less by return from anyone

Oh dear, I do seem to have rubbed Fords up the wrong way, and I suspect he is an essentially nice chap - Closed minds thread - I am a bit naughty at playing mind games sometimes if I feel someone is being a little too judgemental, though that makes me equally guilty Impasse.
I really just try to have fun and a laugh here I get to play enough mind games at work I fear poor old Fords may have have caught me at a bad time. I just spent two days at Coroners inquest, as a witness not the deceased , the Jury thought I was a cultivated thug (stereotyping) and I had to work hard to win them round, though I do have difficulty in empathising with the sensitivities of others regarding death. Seen too much and dispatched too many to whichever deity they happened to support I never have a sleepless night over it, but I guess my cold heartedness is a coping mechanism, not a sociopathic tendency

norti, I don't know what you mean about the Ford's thing, but I've not been around much here in the last few days, having got a bit fed up with this place for various reasons.
With regards, 'empathising with the sensitivities of others regarding death', for me it's about the loss of a relationship when someone dies. I suppose it depends, as ever, on context. If you get to see the relatives/friends, and see their grief at loss, to me that is an altogether different thing from say a more impersonal knowing of death, such as when we hear statistics on tv. Personally I still find that upsetting too..but in a different way from the directly personal.
But maybe you've seen and experienced, very different things to me, as regards death?

Effers;England. Posted Apr 17, 2010
Forgot to add. About a week ago my cat died. She was 20, so a pretty good age for a cat. But I was upset..still am, because of the relationship I'd formed with her. And she was a great mouser in her prime, highly intelligent..an all round special cat to me. And yet I'll happily eat meat, but then for me that's very different, because no relationship is involved. Well that's the way I try to rationalise it.

Thanks Sometimes it's good to bounce ideas off of someone else, stops me becoming blinkered. Which is what I feared I may do in Fords thread on "Closed minds"
I guess was a good friend and companion, I am not without compassion. You will surely miss the company for a long time, it is alaways good to reflect on the fun memories, to maintain your companian alive in your mind
As for me and my experiences, thankfully neither you or a good deal of other people have not had to experience what I have seen and done. It was all done with clinical expertise and without joy or sadness. For me, it equates to merely the satisfaction of a job well done and objective achieved. Nothing more. A number of my colleagues, of those that survived, developed mental health issues,I am one of the few that am, I believe, untainted. I merely have a slightly ambivalent attitude to life and death - Do what needs to done and be on your way!

If it's any consolation I was with you on the "Differing views on opposing fascism" thread. You made some very good and erudite points, though I was beginning to feel it had run it's course with NTM, Tiggy etc. I was on the verge of unsubbing myself and leave it to some fresh debaters with new ideas. Which is what I shall do may be I will return later to see if anything has progressed.

I really wouldn't bother normally, but I think you are worthy of better postings and have demonstrated so on many occassions. This is what I sent to Maria Del Mar regarding Raymondo's post, I guess it equally applies to you my friend.
I am passing this information to you because it appeared to be of great concern to you, since you challenged me at least twice, followed by a diatribe toward from the rest of the sycophants.
I hope both you, and Raymondo will benefit from this explanation. Unless, of course, you all wish to challenge the moderators as well.
Salud.
Complaint From: nortirascal Moderation Reference: 28858460 about Post 97373275 I believe this post describes or encourage activities which could endanger the safety or well-being of others for the following reason:
Campaigning on behalf of a pseudo-political organisation and advertising dates for meetings, likely to cause conflict on both sides of the political divide.
Dear BBC Reader,
Further to your complaint about some of the content on a BBC community site (reference number P28858460), we have decided that it does indeed contravene the
House Rules and have removed the offending material.
Thank you for pointing this out to us.
Best wishes,

You remind me of a little kid who goes to teacher because some other kid has broken a rule, and can then turn round and say, ' See I told you you were breaking school rules, I'm right.' Yes according to the letter of House Rules here, Nortirascal. Except we're all grown-ups here, and personally speaking I have nothing but contempt for someone who has such a little hissy fit because someone posts a bit of info about some marches taking place. I'm perfectly able to decide for myself whether or not I want to attend. I prefer not to have someone else deciding what's good for me to read. But yes those is rules; you are quite correct.
And as for 'pseudo-political organisation'..what a meaningles phrase. They are a political organisation. I happen to disagree with some of the tactics of the UAF, but I strongly support their aims..but that's by the by.
I'm not interested in reading your yikesing literature here or via email, which you sent me a few weeks ago, or some tittle tattle to do with who said what on the Fascism thread. I immediately cancelled that account. I'd set it up because you said you wanted some info about some students visiting London. I didn't expect whiny emails like that subsequently, so you'll have to say anything to me further in full public glare on site.
And yes making you a friend was a mistake. I realise that now. But it isn't the first time, and probably won't be the last.

You can be a little prickly at times, Effers, but I really do have to your insight. I've been that thread, bur refrained from saying anything, it's merely entertaining to watch the games of some of the players. Then up you pop in and cut straight to the core of things
Deus ex machina!

Good to se you still around Effers. I know we have had our 'difference's of opinion', nut I'm not one to hold grudges and your light hearted banter with SWL has been quite refreshing.
Still a bit prickly at times, but mostly harmless
