Seems like someone uninstalled the necessary program when she was doing some housecleaning...

I doubt it

Try either Telnet.exe in the windows folder

or

\Program Files\Accessories\HyperTerminal\HYPERTRM.EXE

(the latter is tricker to use but better)

Ah, but it was Hyperterminal I got rid of...

Figured I wasn't going to use it for anything, so...

download it straight away - it a great diagnostic tool - I think on every occasion I've had to phone an ISP's helpline they have had me using hyperteminal

do - you may never need it - but if you do its probally because you cant connect to the internet & your ISP's helpline is trying to get you to do a diagnostic
