I wanna try this, but my operating system is Windows XP!
I'm not seeing a way to get this installed to be compatible with it ... I've checked the Lynx website too. *sniffle*
Lynx looks pretty as well.

the above links should work on any browser, how did ya get onto Lynx, did ya post to the right thread, me think ya wer looking at my screen shots (F52240?thread=316023), Lynx is a very fast web browser as it is text only so no time wasted downloading graphics ... and I use Lynx on XP
Any "Win32" version of Lynx should work with XP but being a I've got "Cygwin" (go do a search on that I dare ya) installed and use the version that comes with that
if ya liked the Screen Shots take a look at F19585?thread=316174

I your Start button.
It's sublime perfection!
How did you do that?
I was reading about gopher, which recommended using Lynx as a browser. I did a google search and found a page that allowed me to preview my user space in Lynx ... and I liked it. No, no, no! would load nicely that way, and perhaps end my struggles with it..
Thanks for the help, Happy. I'll search out Cygwin too.

just use your normal browser, if you click the link in post 2 of this thread, you will see a bit at the top of the webpage for the gopher URL
Floodgap or Queex are good places to start
The Start button was a bit complicated and carry's a serious PC health warning if ya mess up
but...
http://www.theeldergeek.com/change_text_on_xp_start_button.htm
however before ya try anything as complicated as the above take look at Tclock2

and no need for cygwin unless ya really dedicated the floodgap portal should be ok, failing that install a copy of Netscape 4.7x as that does a decent job of browsing gopherspace

I think I might *not* go to the trouble of making my PC say "Fart", on the start button after all.
But it would be

What I *still* don't get is... WHY use gopher?
(Even if I just read http://www.floodgap.com/gopher/gw.lite?gopher://sdf.lonestar.org:70/00/sdf/faq/GOPHER/01. Maybe I just don't *want* information and files. )

It's kinda like turning the color knob off to experience black and white television, isn't it, Happy?
I can see the advantage of Gopher as far as access speed of web information is concerned ... this could really come in handy for me at work.
