Also does anyone have an analogue poly-synth, either DCO or VCO, lying around that they're not using?

and I hardly think my ancient casio classifys as a 'synth'

depends what model of casio it is.
I was actually thinking of paying for the synth...people aren't generally nice/stupid enough to give away free synths.

I have absolutely no idea what model the CAsio is... an old model I guess I think* its in the loft.... was last time I went to rescue a missing guitar
