Although Ethical Science is real, practical, active, and fundamental to science as practiced today; there is also inherent conflict between Ethics and Science.
Scientific knowledge is based on empirical evidence and the dialectic method, but experimental evidence and logical debate have great trouble understanding notions of right or wrong. Such notions are carried by culture. There are many common threads among the ethics of many different cultures. It is all too easy to assume your culture has a priority in the arena of ethics. More common is a complacent unawareness of the cultural origins of the ethics practiced day to day in science.
In stark contrast with the unawareness of the basis of ethics, is the almost religious zeal with which we practice ethics in science. It is this disassociation within our belief systems that deserve inspection as we survey the ethical problems that we see in science today.

To make this point clear, consider what many would consider the purest of the Sciences, Physics. Newtonian physics, the physics of General Relativity and the physics of Quantum Mechanics are all three branches of Physics. Each of these three branches yield different answers and are therefore not absolutely true. Each branch violates the test of truth and is therefore unethical science. On the other hand, according to the unique assumptions of each branch, each branch is consistent and true. Newtonian physics is sufficient for many observations on Earth, but in the realm of space travel the errors are measurable. And while General Relativity proves precise in space, it fails in the realm where Quantum Mechanics proves to be accurate.

Pure Science seeks to describe matter and energy and the laws governing the true and inherent relationships between the two. Scientific knowledge is based on empirical evidence and the dialectic method. Methods for developing scientific knowledge include the systematic observation and measurement of physical phenomenon. Hypotheses based on observation and measurement are tested and modified.
“Scientific ethics is an institutional code of conduct that reflects the chief concerns and goals of science.” - David Resnik
Therefore any practice that subverts the goals of science is unethical science. Truth is obviously the goal of pure science. As this train of thought becomes utopian, the ethics of practical science becomes relative. For the common person, the assumption that science is based on absolute truth may be common, but scientific truth and methods are only relatively ethical.

I wrote The Pit, not sure where it goes, but that is the Snowflake process.
I also cleaned up Section 2 a bit.
I am beginning to feel the pangs of addiction in this NaJoPoMo process.
At times it is hard to write, but there is also a persistent pressure to come back to the story.
Developing the habit of writing, wow, what a concept. [smiles]

I improved the Power segment but I still need to better connect the warnings of the two Nobel Prize winners with the history of electrical power and the abuse of power of that time. There is also the connection to the list of other prizes of similar monetary value that are not nearly as well known. That gives credence to the idea that money is not the main factor in the notoriety of the Nobel Prizes.
Yesterday was a bust as far as expectations or plans were concerned. Life seems to be full of such chaos, our ability to cope, or rather benefit, from this is what makes the difference between happiness and failure.
Life cycles in many ways. The Prize project cycled into a darkness, a time when direction seemed lost. The sages of my past would have me keep writing in the dark. This is one of the concepts from the history of NaJoPoMo. Today it now seems that what I wrote in the dark is forming some locus of direction. [smiles]
I expected to be using the Snowflake method more that I have. Coping with the cycle into darkness seems to be a minor foray into that Snowflake process.
The day beckons…
