Writer's Block, or Will I Ever Write Another Bestseller?
Posted Jun 12, 2012
Every weekday, I catch the train, transfer twice, walk 3 blocks north, 7 east, and 5 flights up to my apartment. Every weeknight, I tap away at my keyboard, squeezing out thin plots, silly scenes, pasteboard characters, implausible motivations. I hate it all.
It wasn't always like this. Once I began writing just as soon as I clocked out. My characters jostled each other in their eagerness to speak, to act. I couldn't type fast enough.
Then my words were stolen, only to be published by the thief's latest squeeze. How like him to buy her a pair of implants in time for her appearance on Oprah. Fake bust for a phony author. She and her new cleavage took my book on a cross-country book tour three years ago.
Since then, nothing. Nothing worth anything. I think I'll die if that was the only book I had inside me.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
