I'm Shadow, another one of the Assistant Community Editor's (ACE's) here. I thought I'd give you a couple of links new people have found handy from time to time. You could probably be of lots of help! I've had a mega bad time with the homepage. I managed to eventually get some of it to go bold, but I keep getting error messages and I have no idea where to start with the more complicated stuff even after reading all the help pages! I've never used anything like HTML or GuideML before!

Can either of you tell me why I can get my header to appear on the preview but not on the actual page? And also explain how to do pictures coz people keep trying and I STILL cant do it!

Header? Do you mean the GuideML-header-tag?
I can't think of any reason the preview would look different than the actual page... Unless you forgot to press the "update"-button...
And whatever codes you use make sure you've changed your page's style according to whether you use HTML of GuideML - GuideML-tags won't work if it's in HTML-form...

As for the pictures - in HTML you use the following code:


and in GuideML:


You can also add other attributes to both of those but before starting to explain it all perhaps you could say which one you're going to use...
And remember that if you want to add pics you should have them somewhere on your server because h2g2 doesn't host any pics (at least for now)...

Thats sorted out the pictures but still not the Guide-ML header tag. No matter what I do when i hit preview its there and when I hit update its not

That just sounds really weird... I wonder if there could be a delay in the updating or something... But since you seem to get the other things into it... that can't be the case...
Are you sure you have the tag right? Although if it wasn't it wouldn't show up right in the preview either... *sigh* Have to admit it, I'm lost... I'll try to find out if someone else can sort it out...

Also, can u colour text using Guide-ML?

And... Well... If you could mail me all the code you have (with the header) to [email protected] - it might help if I could take a look...

The coloured text in GuideML has worked fine before by using the HTML-tags for it but I'm not sure if it works anymore - you should try... But since there are two different skins one can use (the other one being blue-backgrounded) coloured text seems always to be hard to read in either of them...

OK, the apparent mistake seems to be that you have the tag before the tag... The and tags must be left alone at the beginning and everything else comes after them... So if you just move the it should work...
