Well, it's Sunday...

... and it occurs to me that while I might be safe from flesh-eating bugs, I'll never starve to death, it's unlikely that I'll be conscripted into the military and even the odds of dying in a nuclear holocaust seem to be decreasing year on year, it still sucks that I have to work five days out of seven.

I'm lucky enough to not really care much about what I do for a living so I frequently quit and spend a month or two wandering around or pretending that I can make a living as a writer, but still - five days out of seven? Linear time being what it is I'm not getting any younger so it seems a bit of a liberty.

We recently had that whole year 2000 thing and I seriously thought that our Government, the one run by the man with the grin, might have chosen that mighty occasion to unveil a masterplan of political engineering: the four day week. I mean, it makes logical sense. Say you're prime minister, you want to stay prime minister, you're not averse to spending a little here and there, what could be better than amassing the kind of fortune in secret over the years that can make it possible for you to say to the voting public, "happy new year, well, we've fixed it so that no one ever has to work Mondays again, think of it as Sunday part 2." who would then vote that man out?

I mean, it would just be a gesture, you know? Kind of a "we care" thing. They don't work Fridays, why should we work Mondays? These are our lives we're talking about.

Five out of seven, who the hell agreed with that deal in the first place? You see, it makes no sense, and if we keep it that way we'll never evolve and we'll never get to see our kids, or hang out in parks, or whatever.
