OK I've got LXDE installed on the Netbook and it's mega fast; it's MATE that slows down the computer, it isn't that Mint is inherently slow. So I need only install LXDE on my machines, and I can keep Mint; and I don't have to go to the hassle of dumping everything onto a hard drive etc.

Taxi Driver - very sad movie. Playing with the settings of the Ultrabook, fonts, colours etc. Peppermint isn't as configurable as Mint and I'm wondering whether to reinstall Mint and have the LXDE instead of MATE but I dunno. Peppermint is fun.
