I left the washing under cover last night in the hope that it would dry out completely, only to get up after disturbed sleep and find that it is raining, and the laundry is now damp again. Bah!
The internet wouldn't work this morning, and I had to restart. Don't know if the problem was at my end or their end.
It's raining. Oh come ON summer!
Still the farmers will be happy and maybe the dams will fill up.

A year ago today the weather was:
Uncanny! In the same entry I noted I had been to His People with Liena. Well I remember that day, and what the weather was like. It was cloudy and humid, not bright and sunny. So the weather is doing what it does every year.
Anyway tea is brewing and then I think I'll hie me to Pick & Pay. There is a very nice hot Thai chilli stir-fry sauce that you can get from the Spar in Die Boord; wonder if there's anything like it at Pick & Pay, where it is likely to be a bit cheaper. I bought a kilo of mixed veg stir-fry from Spar, it was nice, could have done with a few prawns, except I'm allergic to them, I think.
I suppose at some stage I should get a proper food allergy test done, so that I know exactly what I can and can't eat.
It seems to me that I'm making progress in sanctification. I am reminded of the song we used to sing at His People about being in the sea and moving farther and farther away from the shore ... Something to watch out for is that I don't short-circuit my mind, and become a Bible-quoting literalist again. I don't think that's going to happen, but I caught myself thinking about certain RC doctrines concerning Mary in an impatient way just now; this is not good, not good at all. I did my Marian thinking and reading mostly in Leeds, and I need to make sure to remember what I believe that is good and true. One must strive to keep mental balance even when everything within and without is changing and transforming.
I was so very impressed by Jonathan Sacks's wisdom on R4. I would rather take him as something to aim at, than Rowan Williams.

It wasn't just his wisdom; it was his passionate faith that I identified with most of all.

Something weird has happened. I just downloaded a 1.6MB file... it took a split second to download. I didn't even see a progress window, I clicked on it and it was there instantly. Very strange. I can only assume that the techies at the other end have done something major to improve downloading speeds.
I also installed Opera this afternoon. Faster browser than Firefox, but with good features. Can't imagine how I ever used Internet Explorer - a vastly inferior product to both Firefox and Opera.

I'm having a stir-fry phase. Up till now I've only had vegetables, but tonight I've got chicken to go with it. I'm using sachets of hot Thai chilli. The sachets are quite expensive (R14) and they completely defeat the economical purpose of stirfries, but for the time being I'll enjoy it.
Opera really is faster than Firefox. Can highly recommend that people ditch Bill Gates' dangerous and insecure Internet Explorer and turn to either Firefox or Opera 9 instead.
Also I have it on the best authority (Peet) that Thunderbird is much safer, security-wise, than Outlook Express.

I have decided to change back to using Firefox. It is 'cleaner' than Opera. Opera has trouble loading the most recent version of a page - you have to refresh again to get the latest version. Plus the look of it is dirty. On the whole it was fast, but doesn't work as well as Firefox - therefore I won't use it at all. In other words I think Firefox is better designed than Opera.

Thanks... I can't see immediately how to set it, but no doubt if I poke around a bit I'll find it.
I spent all this afternoon and evening trying to get used to Opera but in the end I decided I prefer the look and 'feel' of Firefox. Can't say I didn't give it a try!
