ice is out

yesterday there was a space of about six feet between the ice and the shore. several small open spaces had appeared in the lakes middle. by evening the ice had become darker and looked wet and rotten. this morning i looked out to white caps in the brisk wind. this is about a week before the usual clearing date and i cannot help but wonder if global warming is exerting an influence.
