Please excuse the antics in that forum from the Football article. That forum was created by The Wall as a personal attack on me because I said ping-pong wasn't a sport, and he reacted rather childishly. He posted those comments on the football article only to get a rise out of me; since I am the author of the section on American football, he knew where to attack me. You were just an innocent caught in the crossfire, and I hope you don't think ill of me... I'm really a nice person... well, not all that nice, I suppose, but nicer than a red-hot poker in the eye...

MUCH nicer than a poker in the eye, I must say. I did get the impression that this was a personal spat as the messages went on. No offense taken, truly, once you explained the misunderstanding. I do find your comments to be thoughtful and considered, and not at all knee-jerk. Thank you again for the gracious explanation -- as a newbie I really appreciate it. Tell me more about h2g2 -- how did you find this wonderful place? And you are an American? Where are you from? And where are you now?
I am so impressed and interested in this delightful online community -- it's so vital!

I wrote the American football section, and only an American can appreciate the finesse of such a complex game, so American I must be...
I found this thing through Starship Titanic, a cd game by Douglas Adams. I went to the online forums to solve the impossible game, and while there, someone referred me to here, and here I've been since. I'm a wannabe writer, so this was too good of an opportunity for me... a chance to have my work read, critiqued, and obliterated by bad editors. Incidentally, I'm also one of those ACE (Assistant Community Editor) thingies, so if you have any technical questions or anything, I'm your dude.
Anyway, I'm in Southern California, where I was born and raised, but between now and then I've managed to get around quite a bit, having lived in Chicago, Virginia, and Honolulu, and squeezing in a bit of foreign travel for good measure. Why I came back to Southern California is a mystery even to me...
Okay... microphone is now over to you...

Well, I live in Indianapolis, which you may have been able to surmise from the Colts and Pacers references. I actually landed here via upcomingmovies.com, where I read of a version of the Guide being done for the big screen. Having thoroughly enjoyed the BBC series, and of course, all DA's books (even Dirk Gently) I could not resist surfing over -- and was just delighted with what I found.
I have lived here in Indy for 16 years -- but I was born in Colorado, and spent my childhood in Michigan. I would love to travel to all the places I have only read about -- but haven't been able to do much of that -- Chichen Itza is the farthest I have managed to go. Someday...
I work as an account executive for an IT firm. But I consider my real work to be writing. -- and research of sorts -- and a little seriographic work. I hope my poetry is not of Vogon quality!
So where in southern California? I hear it pours...

The boring part... the Inland Empire. I have an article on the subject if you wish to discover the delights of this hole in the desert.
I'm an IT geek too, but I'm a bottom feeder on the great IT food chain. Of course, I'm really a writer, so it doesn't matter if I make myself a failure as a computer geek. I like to write anything, but H2G2 doesn't give me much in the way of opportunities to explore my more creative side, so everything you read here will show me to be a dull, serious type. Except poetry... I have declared myself a failure at poetry, not because I don't like what I write, but because I don't appreciate the poetry of others as much as I should. Therefore, I can only conclude that I must be doing something wrong.
