Thanks for the warm welcome - I'll check out the pages you mentioned.

Oh and thanks for the fish - I'll keep it away from the cats.

Undoubtedly a good idea... I'd never really considered those fishes as potential virtual catfood, but its a possibility...smiley - winkeye

Ooooh, there's always one sharp-eyed one, isn't there? smiley - smiley

Yup - you got me. Just for added humility on my part I haven't even read the books - just watched the spice-addled film a few times.

(Note to self: work harder on secret identities).

Prying allowed, by the way (up to a point).

Hee smiley - smiley David Lynch strikes again, and Sting shows he has almost no acting talent smiley - smiley Aaahhhhh it would also explain your spelling of Mhuad'ib smiley - smiley So, what is it like being named after a Kangaroo-rat-thing smiley - smiley Sorry, just slipped out - I will slink away now.........

"almost no acting talent"... how very charitable. "I _will_ kill him" why do singers feel the need to be in films?

I think I'll stick with the anglicised spelling - otherwise people will think I've just sneezed.

I think I'm named after a shadow shaped like a kangaroo-rat-thing - oh well - cover really blown. I should have been named after "the strength of the base of the pillar", or whatever it was. I'd have been so far off with the spelling of that that nobody would have recognised it.

Happy slinking.

So, are you likely to read the books?
I personally think that the film is great - and it's soundtracks is one of the best soundtrack albums ever!
There's a good dictionary of Dune terms here:

Well...

There's a series of novels called The Dune Series (which I've never read) that are a sci-fi mainstay. Then David Lynch came along and decided that he'd make a film of it (which I watched) and get several thousand pages of novel into about 2 hours of film. Being directed by David Lynch, being set on another planet, and being (in part) about the drug-addled dreams of a proto-saviour stroke warrior stroke prophet type bloke it is occasionally hard to follow.

Anyhoo, the main character changes his name to Moadib (as I heard it in the film) or Mhuad'ib as, apparently, it appears in print. This name is taken from a shadow on his new home planet's 2nd moon in the shape of a rat/kangaroo type beastie.

The name, it transpires, was not as smart as I'd hoped as, firstly, I was rumbled within a day of getting here, and, secondly, I can't even spell it correctly.

I may change it to Geoff.

If you've actually bothered to read all of that then you should probably get a hobby smiley - smiley.
