Election Year (or the Greatest Show on Earth)

I love" Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" because it soothes the mind with unharnessed imagination. It makes us wonder if some day we too might be able to roam the Galaxy, thereby causing us to view our day to day earth problems as silly and diminutive.
Most of us know that life just isn't that way. At least for now.
If you happen to be in the US, you're enduring yet another build up for the Presidential Election.
At this stage in the game, the candidates have determined the voices of popular opinions,(aka "the people") and set thier platforms firmly, but not too firm, just in case the wind changes direction.
The North Americans have divided into the two "respected" parties like good little children, and the candidates are hoping that thier particular party is the most popular.
The media portrays thier favorite choices and the populace eats it up, taking the media's word for it.
The political promises have hit the fan. Most are so ridiculous that it offends even the average thinking human being, but the candidates are in luck. They are in the US where circumstances are dealt with at a visual (thanks Hollywood) and an emotional level.
Time to kick my feet up and enjoy the show. This could be better than The Three Stooges.

Individualism, in general.

A thought occured to me today. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, I grab onto it and mull it over. It happened when I read a book that mentioned that a study was done to prove that people will complete surveys with answers that they think that society would approve of. While pondering this alarming issue it dawned on me that "society" constitutes a whole bunch of people who answered previous surveys who had pretty much hoped and guessed that thier answers would also please society. Yikes...a paradox!! So, why is it that we're a proud people who claim to love individualism and diversity? Sure, there are a few who will take thier stand on something different, but research seems to indicate that we don't want anyone to know what we're really thinking. What do you all think?
