The Unmentionable Marauding Pillowcase

Dear JLC,
I wish you, too, a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I sincerely hope you get over your personal troubles. What is it with the world? Why can't people just love and respect and treat each other kindly?

I found some online pictures of those Ethiopian wolves for you. They are quite good-looking and not very wolf-like at all; like I said, they eat mostly rodents. They are called by quite a number of different names - here for instance you'll find "Ethiopian Jackal" and "Simien Jackal" among others. But they are also quite different from the (other?) African jackals:

I don't havea brother. Some of the pics were taken by my cousin Jaco, the son of my father's sister. But most were taken by myself, and those in which I appear were taken by my father. The drawings I all did myself. I'm going to add a lot more very soon, including lots of prehistoric creatures. I've been a great fan of zoology and paleontology since I was four or five and my dad brought me some books from the university library where he worked, including Grzimek's Animal Encyclopedia (about 24 huge volumes with beautiful color plates) and books illustrated by Zdenek Burian. And of course I am lucky enough to live in Africa and have had the privilege of getting real close to many beautiful wild creatures.

Wheee, it works! These pictures aren't very high quality, but they're the best I managed to find. But very recently in a magazine about African wildlife there were lots of really beautiful close-up shots of them, including puppies. I hope the 'net catches up. There's lots of stuff still very hard to find online.

Ethiopian wolves have the distinction of being the rarest canids (dog/wolf/fox-family members) in the world.
