Hello JLC, nice to see you here again.
as for put up or shut up, i don't think i agree... Does this mean the options are:
a) PUT UP. Accept things as they are, do nothing
or
b) SHUT UP. Say nothing, though the way things are suck.
I'm unkeen on both those options. Am I misreading the statement?

I used the title 'Put up or shut up' from a statement in a previous posting in relation to the posting (post 80) on 'Open Source Software' because here is an example where we can all practice what we have been preaching, but I'm guessing that most of the correspondents to this forum don't.

Before I get a tirade of abuse the 'don't' in the last statment should be applied specificaly to the use of open source software.

"Put up or shut up" means "if you're not willing to do something about the problem, don't waste your breath on criticism", or, "Practice what you preach". It means people have to WORK to improve matters. It means EVERYBODY can make a difference.
I'll be looking at open source software; at the moment I'm not very much into computers and computing so I haven't thought about software much. As for practicing what I'm preaching, I try to do that. I try very hard to teach people about the environment, I cultivate trees, I go on nature hikes with other people, I put lots of info about plants and animals here on the 'net - I hope those are actions that are positive and that can make a difference.

Pillow I know you do, I think we all do in are own wall, I was just trying to draw antention to another way we can pratice that which we talk about - even if is only something as simple as using Mozilla instead of MISE, no offense was intended to anyone I just wanted to make sure the post was read.

Don't worry, I never take offense at anything, just wanted to state my own case. What the hell is Mozilla or MISE???

Dearest Jen,
Great to hear from you again also. Its raining here, though we had a sunny morning. I have been down for awhile with all the slow steady rain.
Now, as for put up or shut up, well, I think Happy was just trying to bring us back as he said in his responding post to his original way of resisting Big Brother. That is to make communication on a global level free and available to those who want it uncontrolled by using and improving Linux and other software that is being developed to put communication in the hands of the people. Lets hope they keep it free once it has been implemented on a large scale worldwide and don't join forces with who they are competing with now. One never knows do one?
Really Put up , means, more like Ante up, put your shoulder to the helm, make the change in your own self and medium rather than ranting about it. That's getting to the Shut up part, Even positive ranting sometimes can be considered wasted energy when you could be working on change.
Still some of us were meant to speak the truth; as we see it, when we see it. I am one of those as well. It doesn't always make me the most popular girl in town and oftentimes tends to intimidate people. For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. (Just Forces of Nature.)
Do what you will, Say what you will, just be willing to accept and if you can anticipate the consequences.
Worlds of Love,
And may I share my personal motto: Keep Sweet and Never Quit!
