"I would be delighted to discuss or swap notes with anyone who, like me, is sufficiently unhinged as to want to delve into the life and times of two medieval noblemen who between them have been
dead for nigh on 1100 years."
Well that is at least two members of the editorial team then - me (Deputy Community Editor) and Crusader (Assistant Editor)!

Gooday Abi,
Sorry to be late in responding, but I didn't pick up on your message until now - I haven't quite got the hang of finding my way through the site just yet. As I told Redbeard, who was kind enough to welcome me to the site, Robert de Vere died in 1392 and John de Vere died in 1513, so the '1100' years is a collective thing. The de Veres were the Earls of Oxford, the 'lords of the manor' of my home village of Earls Colne, in England, which I left a long time ago. For no better reason than that, they became the focal point for my history studies at the University of Tasmania. It is not exactly the kind of topic that grips the general imagination, but it keeps my brain ticking over, which can't be all bad.
Now, tell me please, what do you do as Deputy Community Editor, and ditto Crusader as assistant Editor? Are you the people I should be grovelling to in order to improve my chances of getting an article 'officially approved'? Take care,
Walter.
hello!

Well Crusader is on the editorial side so he is definitely one to keep sweet if you want your articles to survive the editing system
Peta the Community Editor and me are here to make sure that your time here at h2g2 is as pleasant and fluffy as possible. I am a frustrated historian though - I was meant to do an MA but couldn't raise the funding but I will get there one day!
hello!

Gooday Abi,
A frustrated historian eh; that makes at least two of us. Live in hope for the MA. I don't know what the costs are where you are, but here in Oz it has become very expensive to study at university and it is a struggle for a lot of people. What sort of history interested you? And thanks for the tip about Crusader - I'll get around to posting him a suitably grovelling note shortly. Take care,
Walter.
