As a rule, I encourage it at the Atelier. But what can I say, I also like to play. I'm an inveterate visualiser. Come back to the atelier after the decorations and all come down and we're back to normal discussion. I still mix in the stage directions, but at the same time the group treats conversation seriously.
All fora are open to all researchers, regardless of age or intellectual achievement, so we just try to maintain the threadiquette and press on with our goals. As for machine and s/ware behaviour, you weren't exactly alone yesterday. The whole site crashed for about 5 hours. Well, it didn't exactly crash, but it behaved in weird ways ... big software upgrades are in progress. Be patient with the techies.
Nice to meet you, by the way. I'm Lil.

thanks for the info on tech troubles. i'd been having trouble with my whole system, so i wasn't sure if the problem was with my computer or the software or the server or if the gremlins were just having some fun. i've had a long busy week. Sorry to come off a bit over the top. Yeah, Substantive, it's one of those new words you've heard so much about. As i stated elswhere i used to be able to rite gud with little or no effort, but since most off of my typing is done in the Adobe lefthand style of graphic interfacing, my lit. skills have fallen into disrepair.
Anyway, i just met Wendy the Snapple Lady from the commercials a few summers ago. thanks again.

Lil; thanks for the help and info the other day. zax, whom i also ranted at was equally forgiving. i am slowly but surely getting the hang of this. This is similar to what i do at work all day, and we are barely civil because we sort of have to be there, even thougha lot ofthe idiot midmanagement types forget that too often. iam still getting used to the soft KB on my new computer (G4) and I cannot figure out how to spellcheck on this thing. Combine that with a missing digit-tip-which i may have alluded to previously, and it leads to typos, Sorry.
A few questions about fora (I notice that you practice Latin Proper--I went to a university with 9 "CAMPUSES" btw):
Your work is quite nice, the few samples I have seen so far. Is there a specific forum or feedback area for people to get ideas, suggestions, pointers, &tc. about the Big Graphics programs? I work on the image desk of a rather large newspaper, and have managed to learn quite a lot of technical info about colour profiles, and such, as well as a bit of the artistic side. If you ever have a query with colour space or ways to cut back casting, I may be able to help.
That's an open invite to anyone working with PHOTOS in Photoshop or similar application.
Where's a good place to find casual talk on subjects quantumphysical?
Anyway, I've badgered you enough for the present.
Thanks.

Well, you're just the sort of conversationalist I was hoping to attract when I opened the atelier at
http://www.h2g2.com/A304354 . Caveat: I am one of the biggest visualisers on site, which means that getting through a post without stage directions is quite a feat for me. So you'll discover that you'll enter an environment (the floor plan part is brand new, the consequence of a going-away party we had this weekend) complete with pets, bots and Art Nouveau wallpaper.
The good part is that you can participate without having to play at that yourself. Normal threadiquette demands acknowledgement of the participants, but the pets (the sloth, the demon rat) are props. Some people can't do without them. Read the posts carefully, and you'll see different levels of participation.
Another fact of life here is that, as you converse, you must live with interruption and non sequitur. You can cruise serenely above the chaos, and your choice will be respected, or you can join in and fling bones at the rat. You strike me as the sort who knows how to play, but who may be hungry for substantive chat, and I encourage the latter at the atelier.
I have Photoshop 5. Redbeard tells me I ought to have 5.5, for the web facilitation. But the app I use for all the graphics you'll see, as well as all my restorations, is Painter 6. I experimented with Poser 4 for the first time recently: see http://www.h2g2.com/A389847 . The models are embedded in Painter work.
Anyway, do come on over to the atelier. The page explains how the place is set up; you just seek out the most chronologically recent thread.
