sighs* the end with a song stuff is really starting to me off
NTM, you said 'I suppose my One Ape Mission is to give people an inkling that Marxism might not be quite what they think.' I have had that inkling myself for a good long while, reading your posts helps me build on that, quite substantially actually, so in that sense mission successful. In terms of learning about Marx I s'pose I think of you as my best teacher yet and I'm kinda thankful for it
So I always read your posts with interest, get a lot out of them, the debate that ensues and I enjoy as a pastime.
I don't whether saying any of that means a thing to you and I'm a bit scared that it won't and I'm just going to be dismissed for taking stuff way to seriously but what the hey, I'm risking it
The end with a song stuff is just a turn off, although other links aren't, sorry, but it makes me and well, irritates, could you consider giving it rest please
asking very nicely
All the best Peanut

Give it a rest sometimes, like when you are debating with Kea?
Felt I should qualify

Well, maybe.
It was all a joke until she started taking it (and herself) waaaaaay too seriously. But as long as you're also telling *her* to give it a rest, I'll stop it.
But as you say - it seems to be fine on threads that don't involve her.

Sounded more barbed at you then I maybe intended there.
Seriously...no matter what I do it will piss kea off *somehow*. Even when I've stated explicitly that I agree with her I'm told 'No you don't!' (Because I'm missing X, Y, Z, whatever).
So... try to ignore any flippancy.
But I'm terrified to think I'm teaching you anything with this crap!

Hmmm, well you have put me in a tricky position there, because I've not been picking that up in threads, I see you 'tit for tatting' and debating and think you are equal matches You were both going round in circles in a spiritual thread, so I gave up on that one
I'm not just putting this back all on you, just saying that it's not something that I've been aware of, but I'm not renowned for interweb communication skills, I'll look out for it tho.
I was away when the youtube thread was running, when I came back you were on pre-mod, do you think it's fair to say that posting multiple youtube links on a thread that was opened to discuss the difficulty some people have with them was a spiss take that went too far?
The pre-mod was over the top as a response and rather than solving anything, it just made things worse not better because you were rightly spissed off by that.
Is that where this way to seriously stuff is coming from, if so it's a shame really because reading Kea's responce one of the reasons why she was so upset was because she regards you as a friend and so it seemed all the more personal and I don't think you can spiss her off all the time if she thinks of you as a friend.
Or is it because of the community bid, we have got serious, sometimes angsty and overly earnest and can have our heads up our arses on occasion. And it's seemed pretty endless, all the noohootoo threads, we have all felt like we have drowning it, even if we think it's been a worthwhile exercise.
For you, this is just a website, or that's how it seems,if it goes then you just bounce back, not everyone, myself included feels the same, for a start this is my only website in terms of socialising, (perhaps I should get out more) I would feel quite bereft if it went, or changed so much that I no longer enjoyed it
Yep I would get over it, but it would take longer to bounce
All of that seems one-sided, that's not because I'm taking sides, it's just I don't really understand where you are coming from, so unless you feel like explaining, I'm a bit stuck.
As for, 'I'm terrified that I'm teaching you with this crap', made a rod for your own back there didn't you,

Well let's just say she's maybe more a serious person than I am. So sometimes I tease.
And you're right - maybe I'm not taking the 'Community' as serious as some might like. I'd *like* to remain involved, but the Precious atmosphere is currently turning me off. And I'm not the only one who feels the same, I can assure you. There's a massive elephant in the room in this respect. But I have to accept that I'm not the one putting the work in, and if it doesn't matter to those people then it doesn't matter. What can I do?
Have to say...It's one thing to be told that I'm merely philosophising. It's another to be told that someone's mind is on higher things by someone who simultaneously has a thread about how to work her HDTV.

I have been told about 4 times in the last five days or so that there is a massive elephant in the room, I have now decided that I am living in a zoo
I have only been able to identify one elephant with certainity and that was in another thread.
I'm going to call yours Precious. Are you talking individuals here (not asking names) or is it a general atmosphere. I also noticed that you said in another thread that some people were feeling left out.
And I wondered left out of what? You say what can I do? What do you want to do? In another post you said you were happy to 'freeload' (as you put it) by that I thought you meant that you didn't want to be involved beyond posting.
I'm now going to apologise, I have just walked into your space uninvited and now proceed to ask lots of questions
Please feel free to ask me to leave if you just don't want to get into it any furthur, that's fine.

Atmosphere, not individuals, mainly. Although some individuals dominate.
A Community is...'Just these guys, you know?'. It's becoming - inevitably, because of the ownership arrangements - a Club.

I was rubbish in it, sorry, moved a bit quick for me and I didn't have time in RL to cobble my thoughts together in any sort of post order

I was simply astounded that 'dressed like a streetwalker' could pass without comment - and anyone who commented was making a fuss.
I'm sorry - I can't process the idea that a woman might genuinely have dressed too-slutty-for-engineering but not-too-slutty-for-HR. This was being treated as an objective, apolitical issue. It wasn't.
And even (this is more Marxist than feminist) the general buying in to the idea that 'Welll...you have to adopt certain standards at work...' Well, yes. Of course you do. I do so myself. But does nobody question these hierarchical assumptions?

although I would like to catch up with what is going on with the world economy, I haven't been keeping up
