Hello, welcome to h2g2! I'm one of the Assistant Community Editors, so if you need any advice on anything h2g2 related, feel free to ask!
If you're looking for somewhere to go, you might want to try the welcome page for newcomers - http://www.h2g2.com/A5752 - or the Aces' homepage - http://www.h2g2.com/A214796 - which has lots of interesting links.
Also, if you click on the h2g2 logo in the top left corner, it will take you back to the front page, which gets updated daily with all the latest goodies. You can also click on my name to visit my homepage, should you be that way inclined... Have fun, and have a fish -

Thank you to both of you for the welcome--and I'd love a brownie, St. Fashion Cat. I have one quick question, in case either of you ever return--is it considered really rude to not respond to a forum (as in one that you posted a message in and someone makes a comment about your messge, not just all forums in general)? B/c I sometimes don't come online for a while, and other times I think its pointless to argue w/ people who are extremely set in their ways.
Thanks again! And here's to EV ACE:

well (and i bow to EVs superior knowledge here) i dont personally take it as an insult if people do not reply... sure its nice to get a reply, and have made a lot of friends that way, but i dont take it personally...
i think EV would agree with me saying we are both h2g2-aholics, and do meet a lot of new people. and i appreciate that some people cannot get on as much as we do... in short, i'm not sure how etiquette takes it, but i dont really mind...

Superior knowledge? Are you sure?
Well, the nature of these forum-based conversations means that they don't have to take place in real time, so one can never be quite sure whether the conversation is dead or just resting... Don't worry about it, it happens all the time!

Another question for you--where do people come up with these names? Do they have a meaning? Is there something I'm missing? Mine seems a little plain--and short. You don't really have to answer this, I'm just randomly curious.

I wanted to be fair and respond to both of you. So you get a new question as well! How does "h2g2" stand for "hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy"? the first 2 doesnt seem to make sense if g=guide, and the second 2 doesnt make sense if the g=galaxy. And, like I said before, these questions are more out of random boredom and idle curiousity than a dire need to find something out.

h2g2... Hithch-Hikers (two H's....) Guide to the Galaxy (two G's) => h2g2... : )
and my name is what i've always been known online.... it came about from the Cat in Red Dwarf being my fav character, and someone suggested fashion cat... it stuck!
