*hiya, bumped into you on the "seeking Dutch/Flemish" thread. Here be official ACE welcome, you seem to have slipped through the net!
My name is Terri, zendevil Terri or zdt when feeling lazy! and I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) here at h2g2. It's my job to welcome you to the site and hopefully show you around a little. I AM a real person, not an automated reply not an automated reply not an automated reply
.
Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something YOU can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the writing-guidelines for more information on that.
You make a great start by opening your space which will make it easier for others to contact you; even a few details about yourself will attract interest.
We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
You can leave a message on my space just by clicking on my name at the top of this message or by hitting the reply button below - it won't hit back (usually).
*Do feel free to lurk my personal Space, visit my journal Eye thread & say hi, add me to your fiends list: whatever.
My fellow ACE Feisor made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at A719840 - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place
It should keep you busy for a while! I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do. There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know
Enjoy!!
Have fun!!!
and above all !!!

Many thanks for your welcome.I am still finding my way around the site.I arrived here accidently(as others probably)through BBC WW2 people's war posts being transfered over to h2g2.I assume members are still able to view my pictures as posted on the WW2 site.....would you please confirm? Trying to stay calm!

Erk! I am not sure of the technicalities of that, what i will do is pose the question direct to The Powers That Be via the Aces own off-site forum.
We've ceratinly had quite a few folks transfer over after the WW2 site folded, so i'm pretty sure others have asked this.
Can we interest you in writing a Guide Entry on some aspect of the subject?

www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ww2/A4527803
That's where your article used to be. Because of the way this site works, you'd also have found it using any other site name, so all of the following would have looked exactly the same:
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A4527803
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/hub/A4527803
www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbsn/A4527803
But the ww2 one was probably the one you would have bookmarked and saved.
Stupidly, now that the ww2 site has closed down, they've changed the ww2 version of your article to a simple redirect to the front page of the People's War archive. The other versions, though, still work. They don't produce the article itself, but they do give a link to its new location in the People's War archive.
Since the ww2 version was probably the version you had bookmarked, this decision is ridiculous. I'll try asking the technicians to change it. They probably won't, though. Budget, y'know.

Would this be what you are looking for --> http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/03/a4527803.shtml
After a bit of digging around I found this page -- http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/about/archive_information.shtml -- which tells you how to find personal spaces (U-numbered pages) and specific entries that you've written (A-numbered pages). Apparently you put the whole code in the search box at the bottom of the screen and press 'Go'.

A4527803 will find it too.
But a simple browser bookmark or external link to the ww2 page is now useless. Which is silly, because it's the ww2 page which will have been linked to and bookmarked.

or.....
can I start a fresh and upload details and pics on to h2g2? If so,where would be the best place?

TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office Posted Jan 24, 2007
It's alright. We can find them from your list of Guide Entries on your Personal Space. And there's no easy way of uploading images to h2g2 anyway. You'd need to have a personal word with the Editorial <./>Team</.> before you could do that. And since h2g2 is about the Guide, they probably wouldn't accept the pictures without an Edited Guide Entry to go with them.
<./>Browse</.> the Edited Guide.

The WW2 site is now an archive site, so folk can't leave you messages there.
I would suggest that your best bet would be to post messages here which point to the relevant pages in the WW2 site, and that you say in your message that if they recognise him that they need to tell you here at h2g2.
The link that I gave take will take people directly to the picture of your father, and the other link will tell you how to create links to other articles of yours at WW2. You can copy and paste those links into your own messages and they will be clickable.
If you need any more help with this, just give us a shout

I got your email & replied; so do go ahead & fwd the pics if you wish. The Belgian lads have arrived & are very nice; they are making a film, so i would imagine may have contacts with Archive material back there.
