Hello

Hope you don't mind me dropping round but your comment about me having a nice beak has made me smile a couple of times today and I have been wondering what sort of beak I would like to have smiley - biggrin

So far the suggestions have been a toucan, puffin or a spoonbill, the latter for comedy value but also quite handy for when you run out of teaspoons, hmmm

Have your parents arrived safely - without being ASBOed, or read the riot act smiley - winkeye

Hi Peanut smiley - hugsmiley - cheerup

What would be a fitting beak? ... that's definitely an interesting
question smiley - smiley. When I think about it for some unknown reason I
recall myself in my childhood surrounded by images whilst immersed
in short stories by Daphne du Maurier, "The Old Man" and "The Blue
Lenses", and by Roald Dahl, "The Swan". I also recall a little
later on in life visiting the Farne Islands (Staple Island) off the
coast of Northumberland (Seahouses) and having small black and white
birds with colourful beaks filled with silvery fish dart overhead on
their way to feed fluffy little chicks waiting expectantly and
hungrily in the shadows of the entrances of their underground
burrows.

I have spoken to my parents and they have arrived safely even
managing it past customs. They are a little weary now having gotten
up early in the morning (about 5.30 our time). I shall shortly be on
my way south and sadly (or maybe not so sadly smiley - winkeye) incommunicado
until the beginning of September. Hopefully H2G2 won't have vanished
in the mean time.

All the best for now and please help yourself:

Morning Tarantoes

smiley - coffee

I couldn't help you will your tech stuff but I did understand the frustration on the right to reply thing.

I didn't know how helpful it would be say that although anyone coming to conversation through Barlespew would't be able to see some of your posts, researchers contributing or smiley - lurk would be using the old skins. I still don't know how helpful it is but I'll post it anyway

Barlespew has a number of glitches, drives everyone up the wall smiley - groan

Have been on Libya thread this morning smiley - bigeyes long posts, then onto post modernism, more long posts smiley - yikessmiley - laugh I'll come back to both threads for a good smiley - lurk

How was your holiday?

Hi, Barlesque looks fine on ipad it is just not very good on the
laptop (seems to be a problem with sizing the various windows) in
the personal space etc - plus the bugs when posting).

Holiday went well, Kent (Herne Bay, Whitstable, Margate) and South
London, everyone was well. One of my sins is going into second hand
book stores - I ended up taking 36 books back with me - so I think
I'll be spending less of my spare time on-line ...

Hi Peanut - you are one of the good-uns in my book (a good heart) smiley - hug

I'm not sure what will happen with the move. I first came over to H2G2
after they mentioned that 606 was closing and thought I would browse
through peer review for any interesting articles and provide
feedback where I could. It was then announced that BBC-H2G2 was
closing so I went to the conversation section and have remained
there.

I have got the impression that in terms of numbers and variety of
people contributing to the conversations etc it is like the last
days of Rome. I am not sure whether it has always been this way,
but I do feel there needs to be more people contributing to the
threads offering greater perspective on things. Maybe things will
change when H2G2 moves. They have said there are 170000
contributers and about 170000000000 members (sorry maths isn't my
strong point). smiley - winkeye

thank you smiley - hug

I think we want to 'grow' in terms of numbers, that not just about success as a site but a recognision that broadening the appeal of h2g2 to people, making newcomers welcome and for this to be a place that they want 'to be part of' is something we want as individuals, (we are pretty socialable for the most part) and it makes for a healthy and hopefully at times vibrant community

stick with us, please, smiley - grovel

don't forget your smiley - towel
