"Self-love seems so often unrequited" [Anthony Powell]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Love troubles, tarantoes? Lovers' quarrel, perhaps?
You should look at self-love with optimism, like Mr. Wilde did:
"To love one's self is the beginning of a life-long romance."
Just wanted to see how this "Leave a Message" works...
=====================================================================
I think you cracked it (I don't mean ).
I think that quote does help to explain some human behaviour.
ps the rise of text speak (lol etc) and smileys is an interesting addition to language (in the sense of communication as well as I guess miscommunication <yi.kes>. Not sure I like the yikes and winkeye smileys on h2g2 - I think I prefer the 606 versions.
"Not sure I like the yikes and winkeye smileys on h2g2 - I think I prefer the 606 versions."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am sure I don't like them. [This one looks good, though.]
The h2g2 winkeye seems to wink with its wrong eye? But I really need my winkeye!
I also don't like the "grr" smiley and the "erm" smiley, which looks more like "ill"? smiley [], whereas the "doh" looks more like "erm" []... Hmm.
Actually, I first started using smileys when I started posting on 606, now I cannot communicate without them!
Perhaps I have "adapted" my emotions/facial expressions to 606 smileys and I find those new ones somewhat strange... It's not like I used to wink every time I tried to make a joke, and here I have to wink with my left eye?!
But ... ... ... and are nice and useful additions.
Also... and are very cute - not sure about their usefulness. - I mean, ...

"Many attempts to communicate are nullified by saying too much."
[Robert Greenleaf]
Anyway, I find h2g2 a bit too much for me. Not that I've explored it enough, but it seems too big and complex, disorganised (?) even. It looks like I would need a lot of time to find my way around it and I spend too much time on the Internet as it is.
A bit of tennis and a bit of fun on 606, where I already know most of the posters, is enough for me. Besides, I'm not sure that my English is good enough, or that I have enough knowledge of various subjects for h2g2...
And, one cannot delete anything here (except journal entries, I think)! So if I, for example, say something stupid now, it is here to stay - forever!
On the other hand...

Hi,
yes, not being able to delete one's entries is a shortcoming and one can end up spending an entire life on these boards if one is not too careful . Well I hope you are learning all the idioms of the language. I might look around to see if there is a french equivalent to the BBC boards so that I can practice my french ,
A bientôt.

It took me FIVE days to realise that the 606 winkeye has the same problem!
And in the same post I mentioned that I might say something stupid - well, THAT was a clever observation!
"A bientôt."

= See you soon. (? That's the translation I found..)
Not in French, you won't.

Well I'm not sure if you check here but yes I admit - you are magical - I can't post on 606 after the 11 pm deadline!!
I'll aim to reply on 606 early tomorrow evening. I've been a bit busy (extending deadlines etc). My laptop failed again Wednesday and am now using an older laptop. I haven't yet loaded up flashplayer for the youtube links.

I see you are using a mobile phone or something? --> the apostrophes are converted to '
I think I'm done now .

That new h2g2 is definitely not working properly... I get "server errors" even when I try to explore h2g2. It must be the reason for all the problems on 606...
My discovery was pure coincidence (well, all great discoveries are ), I just posted that "" to see if it'll work - perhaps it wouldn't if I had posted anything else, but the magic did the trick!
I thought I shouldn't draw attention to that thread this morning, besides, posting during the posting hours is not such fun anymore .
I didn't really expect a reply (this time), like I said, that video isn't all that important, just fun... maybe.
"stupid"

I was just wondering why you deleted one of my previous comments, but now it looks like you really like to delete .
There is likely to be some important match in progress during the Indian Wells, one night when 606 closes, so I was thinking, wouldn't it be fun if we just continued to comment on the MotD thread... Or would that be too mean ?
Just kidding... imagine the consequences !

Yet another discovery!
When you post on the "new h2g2", you apostrophes don't look pretty on the "old h2g2". And I've noticed some were having problems with that...

... so all they have to do, if they ARE posting on the new site, is write - ' - instead of - ' - !

Hi just passing through quickly. You know I can't delete on this thread - so I'll post quickly on the other thread .

"How much deeper would the ocean be if sponges didn't grow in it?"
I like this poetic "question" - is it attributable to someone?
70% of the world is ocean and nearly 70% of us is ocean ... (it gives another meaning to the term "the sea inside").
Magic
TasteOfGreen Posted Mar 11, 2011
No, I found it somewhere on the Internet... I suppose its author is anonymous.

"for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."
Are we only 30% dust then? So where should we "return" to?

"the sea inside"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If this is what we look on the inside:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmuFnAF3N9E
then it's true that the real beauty comes from within...
I'm just saying that, of course that's true. I've seen people turn ugly or beautiful, while their external appearance stayed exactly the same...
"For whatever we lose (like a you or a me),
It's always our self we find in the sea."
[e.e. cummings]
PS
"Sponges grow in the ocean. That just kills me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn't happen."
